There has been a lot of interest in this TV on these forums as of late but AFAIK WHSAV have not mentioned any forthcoming reviews.

I too am awaiting a review (have not actually found one in a shop yet) as would maybe consider upgrading my Samsung PS50P96FD for this and move the older one to our recently refurbished Kitchen area.

We're running a Supertest of 50-52in TVs in the August issue (on sale July 1st, subscribers should get their copies today/tomorrow). We've included the Samsung PS50B650, but not the 850. It's up against models from LG, Panasonic, Sony and Toshiba. Well worth a read!

Andi, many thanks for your reply but any guess/hint about reviewing 850 as I beleive PS50B650 and PS50B850 are not the same in terms or performance and pic quality??

As we've mentioned in many TVs threads, we've long since requested an 8-series set from Samsung - just waiting for the TV to arrive. When it does, it'll be a review priority....

Hi,

This is the main jest of what other reviews and user experiences have said:

Good:ÿ

Excellent overall pic - sharpest & brightest picture to date on a plasma

Better colours and brighter than a Panny V10 with more PQ adjustment optionsÿ

Excellent HD & very good SD performance (better than Panny V10)

Very good connectivity

Truly slim & stunning looks

Low power consumptionÿ

Bad:

Poor blacks overall (no better or worse than last years Panny's)

Blacks better in bright daytime viewing but poor in dimmed conditions

Slow internet widgets

Serious buzzing ÿ(Samsung after denying problem, now advising engineers to retrofit dampers to logic board)

Many of reported it gets very hot

rubbish sound qualityÿ

Some reports of vertical banding

Some feel poor build quality

rubbish remote controlÿ

Thanks Bazzy, after looking at ur good/bad points, it seems like Pioneer Kuro is still a winner.

Hi,

That it is, by a very long shot on PQ anyway. Harry, if you really want one, you had better act really, really quickly as supply is very seriously short and you really risk losing out. Just make sure you buy from reputable dealer and not currys/comet/dixons types!

Bazzy, Andy: Thanks for your advice.

I have just tried calling different shops to buy this Tv and need your advice, again
emotion-1.gif

1. PDP-LX5090-UT (with single bottom speaker and tv stand) : speciall price £2100 (current price £2500) with 1 yr warranty + offering half price on wall install (£73) + wall bracket (£79). I can sell TV-Stand (maybe) on ebay as I don't need it.

2. PDP-LX5090 (without speaker and tv stand): special price £2000 (current price £2100) with 5 yrs warranty. I am not sure if its new boxed TV or a demo. They were having two 5090 demo and were packing one of them in box the day I went again. Is it possible to know whether its demo tv or brand new?

They have secured this special price for only upto Monday.

Please advice!

Try asking them perhaps? I don't think they're allowed to promote a demo model as being new.

I'd have to say though that the speaker and stand seem to be about £200 extra EACH, so you'd expect this one to be nearer £400 less than the other one, not £100 (that's what it would cost you to add the speakers and stand afterwards). however, you'd need to work out how much a 5 year warranty would cost and trade that off.

Bear in mind however, in order to get the 5 year warranty you need to have the set registered with Pioneer before the end of JUNE, so you've got 2 days... it can be done online though.

Andy Clough:Guess it boils down to whether you really need the speaker and wall bracket.
I would be wall mouning this TV for sure. As far speakers are concerned I am not sure. I am going to buy home cinema anyway but just thinking to use TV speakers for ordinary SD channels e.g. cartoon channel for my kids.

Thanks Ihc, are you sure 5 yrs warranty is just available up to this month only? I've to buy it today or tomorrow then. ..btw speaker and tv stand both can be bought separately for just under £200.

I bought my KRP-500A from a Pioneer Level 1+ dealer, but I haven't had it delivered yet (it's sitting in their store room while I sort a stand out), I've already paid for it in full, so the dealer's got nothing more to gain. Last time I went in there (two weeks ago, maybe three) he handed me the forms and the serial numbers for the panel and the media box and told me I had to get them registered by the end of June otherwise I'd lose the 5 year warranty, even though I bought the set in February (you get 1 year regardless, the extra 4 years is what you get when you register).

I've to buy it today or tomorrow then.

Yup and you MUST have the serial number for the set in order to claim it. You have to send in a copy of your receipt as well, so provided that's got a date of purchase that's before the end of June you might be ok, but I wouldn't like to say.

Hi Bazzy - Thanks for your comments. I bought this from Sevenoaks for £2100 including delivery and they will also give some discount on my home cinema package, hopefully.

Maxflinn - I will post my comments but it will take some time because I have to wait until this tv is mounted on wall. Just looking for some professional service for this. I don't want to take risk because wall is hollow plasterboard and it has to go on studs behind.
