new member needs help with disappointing sound

Late to this one but......

You need to isolate your deck or place it on a surface that does not transmit vibration - like wood & check the cartridge is aligned correctly and weighted correctly too, make sure the stylus is not damaged especially if you installed it yourself. Taking it to a dealer to test it to make sure none of these are issues may be a good idea.

If you have no other issues from other sources on your amp, its your deck, the stylus is a tiny mic, taping the deck is audible through speakers, if the table is actually sitting on the amp what you discribe will happen or if too close to your speakers this can cause distortion at volume.

you may just need a new rack with seperate shelves - glass ones.

but confirm the above 1st.....

one more thing - not familiar with your amp but is the phono stage a dedicated phono stage or is it a line-in that can be 'swtched' to be a phono stage. if so make sure its on the right setting.
