Hi,

I am a newbie to Home Cinema systems living in Sweden am planning on building up a Home Cinema 5.1 (Bi-Amp) system from scratch round my 8 month Sony KDL-46Z4500 TV. I have Tannoy 611 Speakers from 1992, that sound good, and see no reason for replacing them for the coming two, three years or so ,as budget is limited. The Home Cinema system should be good when playing Stereo too.

In mind for the AV Amp I have the Pioneer SC-LX82, Sony STR-DA5400ES or STR-DA5500ES, and for the Blue Ray the Sony BDP-S760 is very much a clear choice less somebody can convince me of some other player. I am keen on sticking to the Sony brand for the Amp and BlueRay player to utilise the Bravia sync function and where sound and picture quality are near equal to non Sony brands.

My budget does not warrant purchase of all Surround speakers right now, but would be able to purchase a subwoofer and have the Tannoy TS-10 or the B&W ASW610 in mind. I would then add the center and back speakers later on in 2010.

I wonder if anybody has any idea of Tannoy 611 speakers with the above amps. would it be a gross mismatch or should I alter my amp choice to try and match the speakers.

All input would be very much welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Peter

Many amplifiers/receivers are chosen because they're a tonal match to specific speakers, but in the case of the Pioneer, it has a nifty feature called "X-Curve", which allows you to adjust the high frequency level of the whole system very easily. All AV amps have room EQ which does help, but the X-Curve system gives the Pioneer the egde in being able to match up with more speaker packages than most amps/receivers can.

I am still searching around for the components for my Home Cinema system and I am currently considering purchasing a Tannoy Arena 5.1 loudspeaker system, ex demo. they look very "wife friendly" and I have read that they sound great. As yet I have not yet bought my Home Cinema Amp, but it seems like it would most likely be a Sony, perhaps the STR-DA5500ES and the Sony 760S Blueray player, so my question is if anyone has ideas of how these proposed components would blend together. Any other suggestions? Total budget for everything is equivalent to about £ 2 500 equivalent, but prices here in Sweden tend to be a little higher than the UK for the most.

I intend to hang on to my elderly Tannoy 611 speakers (close to 20 year old), as they still sound great to my ears, may I could rig up a 7.1 system???

Kind regards
