Hi from Sussex.

As my first retirement project, I have just finished putting together a vintage HI-Fi system. Parts sourced from ebay, charity shops and freecycle. All units are over 10 years old.

Amp. Denon PMA-520. 70W per channel into 8 ohms.

Tuner. Sony ST-SE520. FM RDS EON.

CD player. Sony CDP-579.

Mini-Disc recorder. Sony MDS-JE530.

Speakers. B&W DM6. (Known as “Pregnant Penguins”).

The speakers I have overhauled. All crossover capacitors have been replaced and as my hearing is starting to loose the high frequencies, I replaced the original tweeters with ribbon tweeters to lift the top frequencies. Amazingly my wife didn’t object to having these unusual and large speakers in the lounge.

The sound is probably better than my aging hearing is able to appreciate.

An interesting and worthwhile project with a total cost of just under £40 + many hours work.

Welcome aboard.

BTW. Good project.....I'm all too familiar with retro gear, as are a lot of others on here; so you're in good company.

Here you go retro sussex...click on the HTML code in photobucket, then click on the HTML icon at the top of this comment box - paste the html stuff in the pop up then click update. Should do the trick.

If she did object...at least they are big enough to hide the body 🙂

What a great idea for a project. There must be some great equipment available at silly prices, and if you can restore things like cross-overs, it musu be very satisfying. 🙂
