I have 1000-1100 pounds for my first hifi. I listen jazz (Miles Davies, Coltrane, Cassandra Wilson) and classical music (Chopin, Bach cantatas) and i really don't know whad should I choose to have a really good sound for this money. First I thought about Arcam Solo Mini but now I'm thinking about amplifier + CD player + speakers. Can anybody give me advice what could be a good choice? (sorry for my English)

Depends on what you want and how much room you have but to me, the Arcam Solo Mini with some M/A RS1 speakers on decent stands and good speaker cable (Chord Carnival Silverscreen would be ideal), I dont think you'd get better.

There's a Solo Mini on eBay currently and there's also some decent priced M/A RS1's out there and on eBay.

As for stands; I'd look at the Atcama Nexus 5 or 6 stands minimum or you could look at the similar SoundStyle Z2's.

Ok great, so i would recomend a Nad set up with the C326BEE Amp which is a confident amp that can drive amkward loads and is assured even with the bass. Costs £325 ish.

Then the C545BEE source which plays classical very well. Costs £350ish

I'd partner these with the Dali Lektor II speaker which are seriously entertaining speakers. Costs £300 ish.

That leaves £175 for speaker stands and cable.

I'd recomend the Soundstyle Z2 stands at around £75 and Chord Company Carnival SilverScreen Carnival SilverScreen speaker cable at £6 per merer and Chord Company Crimson interconnect at £40.

That system will come within budget and should serve you well.

As with anything try to audition and get the best deal you can.

You will also be able to find reviews of these products at this web site.

Best of luck.

Thanks a lot!

If NAD plays classical very well it is what I need :) And what do You think about:

Cambridge Audio Azur 650A + 650C

Marantz PM6002(or 6003) + CD6002(or 6003)

and Dali Lector II or Monitor Audio BR2 or B&W 685

It is the difference of playing classical/jazz between these systems?

AVI ADM9.1.

One of the company heads is a classical music/jazz afficionada. Hence they excel in exactly those genres but do other stuff too. Good luck.

I'm looking for bookshelves. In my work I change the places I live from time to time so it will be better to buy bookshelves.

I think you should rule out the Azur combo, they can be bright in the treble so system matching will have to be spot on. Obviously it can be done but an audition would number one priority with them.

I wouldnt rule out the 6002 combo. The CD is up thier with the best in this price bracket but the amp can be wooly and lacking clarity at the bootom. The 6003's are available soon and if you can wait this could be a very good combo indead.

To be honest i think the Nad combo will get the nod its got some good spec the the money and one thing i do like about even though its rated at 50 watts per channel the reservoir capacitors will give you peaks of 100w into 8 ohms and a 150 watts into 4 ohms, perfect for classic listening!
