New cartridge that rocks!!!

I'm in the market for a new cartridge. It needs to be able to play guitar based and electronic music.
Im looking at Sumiko Blackbird as it has great reviews but not sure if the genre's fit the cartridge.
Budget is around £500 but could stretch to more if something exceptional comes up.

I'm awaiting a VPI SSM which is customs as we speak. Should be at the door in 10 to 14 days time and i must say i'm eagerly awaiting it.
On the lookout for a cartridge to partner it.
I've had a couple of Pro-Ject tt's with Ortofon which were ok but want to get it right from the off.
Both Sumiko and Dynavector have been suggested to me but i'm unsure if they will work musically with the genres i listen to.

Ah a yank tank. Is it complete with the jmw 9 sig tonearm. What phono are you using,this is all relevant. Thinking about this you will prolly get a better insight to what this deck handles well and not so well from where it is more popular. So google 'the vinyl engine' and register with that forum,tis not all americans by the way. Very friendly site and you will get answers from users instead of wild stabs in the dark.

It's funny you mention the tonearm as the new model SSM which was released monday 22nd Feb (4 day's ago) has the jmw 10.5i and rim drive.
As i placed an order 6 weeks ago i presume i'm getting the original machine but as delivery date is after new model release i may have the new.
I'm probably going to use a Whest Two phono stage but haven't bought one yet so still open to suggestions.
Thanks for your honesty and i'll let you know the outcome of choices.

Nowt wrong with the whest. Lehman black cube decade is really good,fair bit more than the whest price wise,but seek and ye shall find

. Trichord diablo or dino i think would suit you and your musical tastes, you can fiddle with the settings too whereas the whest is fixed gain. What amp are you running,just out of interest ?. Yup keep us up to speed with your gleaned imfo from the engine.

Floyd Droid the amps a Chord CPM 3300, sorry it's taken so long to get back!!!

Iv'e opted for a Dynavector XX2 MK2 Cartridge. It has been recommended and the online reviews are very good indeed even for guitar based music. I nearly got a second hand Te-Kaitora Rua from the states for the same price as a XX2 MK2 but didn't want to risk it so went new.

I've now got 2 phono stages, the first i ordered was the Dynavector P75 which in enhanced mode should work well. This was recommended by Pear Audio. Got an ex-demo happy with that.
The second phono stage i bought was a Benz Micro Lukaschek PP-1. This was an impulse (well sort of, watched it for a while) by from e-bay. It had a very low starting price with no reserve and in the wrong category! Happy day's no one else bid! Anyway i'll try them both out over a period and see which 1 fares best, if there not up to it i can sell on and try something else. A far few Tricord's go through e-bay so i'll try them or maybe a Tom Evans but i'll give the 2 i have a whirl first.
