Something with very good tracking ability with no sibilance and IGD , and with low surface noise , also to match my phono preamp I want to get the most out of it , deserves better than Elysssssssssss 2 . In the near future I want to buy RP6 so the cart will be used on RP6 as well. I was thinking ortofon 2m blue or Rega Exact that would be on the top of my budget .

Thank You fellas

Nagaoka MP-150 or MP-200 would be my choice!

The Nags are a lot more relaxed than the Dyn 10x5 - obviously the Elicit's phono is nicely matched with the Nagaokas!

In Birmingham is available only Goldring from those You've mentioned in Audioaffair but about £50 more than online . And there is no way I can fit that cart on my own I am only starting with vinyl . There is Music matters shop Superfi (they dont do cart fittings) and Richer S. So I have limited choice

IMO the Nagaoka MP-110 wipes the floor with the Elys 2, and yes I have owned both carts on Rega Decks

The MP-110 can be found on ebay for £89 delivered - bargain IMO

Sadly I don't know anyone who would fit it for me , Steve how did You find Exact against Elys2 ? In term of tracking difficult passages and overall presentation ? Is it worth that money ?

Agree with chebby on the Goldring and again with the Nagaoka MP-150 it all depends on which suits your budget. I'd edge towards the Goldring.

If you cannot fit it yourself it would be worth finding a dealer in Birmingham and pay them to fit it to your arm rather than just going with what is available locally.

Come away from the Rega's in my opinion.

Personally If i had the budget for an Exact, i would get something better. The Exact isnt a bad cart and is tuned to Regas phono stages but you can get better like the Goldring or Nagaoka.

I too was nervous - but fitting a cart is quite simple, plenty of folks on here can guide you through it!

PS i never had a problem with the Elys2 or Exact mistracking or inner groove distortion, they are similar carts IMO with the Exact having a bit more bass and refinement

Stevebrock what aligment do You use ? I've set VTF 1,75 using my digital scale but on the tonearm dial it shows something over 2 , how can it be so inaccurate ? It means that people with no scale setting VTF on dial they using wrong tracking force , may be 1,5 or less?

I use the Rega aligment protractor!

The VTF tracking dial on Rega arms is only really a guide!

I set everything to 0, both VTF Dial and Bias

Then I balance the arm to so its hovering over the platter by 1mm by adjusting the counter weight

I then dial in desired tracking weight

Then have a quick check on the scales what the Actual tracking force is then adjust VTF to get the desired force as indicated on the scale

I experiment with the bias

£40-50 is a joke - its a 15 min job! Fit the cart self as long as you take your time, have all tools to hand and use a stylus guard.

I don't think 40-50 is soooo bad, though a bit pricey if you've purchased the cart from them.

It takes more than 15 mins if you're taking your time - plus the use of the scale and the years of experience of setting it up - not that bad really.

Though I would say that doing it yourself is probably the best bet - you'll learn how it ll works.

Having said that - there's the chance of destroying a cart if you bend off the stylus - so the money might be worth it if you've spent a lot on the cart.

Well I am a complete novice, and i fitted the spacer to my RP6 (easy) then fitted a £350 cartridge, my first one ever - and I got it right first time! Yeah I really took my time probably about an hour in all.

I really think if your buying a cart for a few hundred quid then the dealer should fit it free.

does Nagaoka MP-110 need spacer ? I am going for Nagaoka MP-110 or Ortofon 2M blue 2 different sounding carts but both are apparently better than Elys2 . Can I use supplied Rega alignment on all carts ? HiFI news test LP contains some alignments as well , which one to use ?

Well any non-Rega cart does need a spacer for the arm to be level, this is what I have on my RP6 - but people do use a non-Rega cart without spacer.

http://www.analogueseduction.net/rega-upgrades-parts-accessories/rega-3-point-metal-spacer-2mm-for-rb301-rb700-rb900-etc.html

Easy to fit.

Well regarding your Cart, the 2M Blue is nearly double the MP-110, really the MP-110 is a fanatstic cart for the money and I would go for the Nagaoka any day over the Ortofon so save the money for more vinyl. I have now even moved my 10x5 on and just have the MP-110 on my RP6 and really happy with it.

The Rega Aligment thingy is fine, I used it for my 10x5 & MP-110

If you need any more advice, I will help all I can

so He charges £40-50 for fitting cart and setting :O

I expected 10-15

£40-£50 does sounds a bit high but what can you get a for £10 now, not even a new lp, if he knows what he is doing and has all the right gear then it maybe worth it, maybe its because you did not buy the cartridge through him.
