is there a general run in time for a new cartridge

just fitted a new AT440MLa in place of the linn K9 was expecting more so will it get better as time goes on

Henley:It depends on the stiffness of the suspension but you should notice improvements after around 20 hours.

When you say suspension are you referring to the cart or the deck, please excuse my ignorance

I mean the suspension on the cartridge. A less compliant suspension will normally take longer to run in that a very flexible one. The rubber compound used acts a bit like a muscle and performs better at reasonably warm temperatures and takes time to run in at first use.

Well its been over a week and a few lps later and the new cart is really singing, it has loosened up, the sound stage is wide and deep i am hearing more from lps than before, even from very cheap well worn 70s vinyl are sounding good.

Now i am considering getting the tt down to a linn dealer for new springs and setup where as before the new cart i was thinking it was not worth the spend but now i am thinking the tt has potential.
