Right just got my lovely new marantz pm8005 amp it sounded good straight out of the box but still running it in . My next upgrade will be changing my Dalis 3s to get the most out of this amp so if you can throw some speaker names at me please so that I can look them up and then demo I will also be getting the scad player that goes with the amp but will sorting the speakers first . Budget £800- £1000 , speakers need to be stand mounted ones , room 3m by 6m . Music taste metal , classic rock , classic to dire straits I do not want to go over this budget so PMC are over my budget unless a secondhand pair comes my way . Thanks

Congratulations on the new amp - excellent choice. Mine works very well with Dynaudio2/7s and the Excite X14s might be worth a listen in your budget. I have been looking for the elusive Proac Studio118s (£1075) for a demo, but none within 100 miles. I did hear the new opticon 6s this week and am very tempted as I enjoy the Ikon 6s in my AV. I thought the Opticon 6s excellent on a short demo and might be swayed to ditch standmounts. The Opticon 2 has ditched the hybrid tweeter which is a shame, but still might be worth a listen.

At that budget, you have to listen to the Focal Aria 906, I drive mine with the PM-6005 and am very happy. The extra power of the 8005 might be a revelation!

not much help to you now, but Pete Tyson are doing a deal with the PM8005 where you can buy that and Q Acoustic Concept 40 for £1299! I had my eyes on KEF R500's, but at that price its sooooooooooo tempting!

yes got one now i got it from amazon though harrow audio for £599 with free post well wouth the money as it was a £1000 amp when it came out last year anyway the speakers that your saying about are over my budget as i do not want to spend anymore £1000 which i would have thought should get me a good pair for that money and not after floor standing as i have young kids who would love to poke holes lol so best up high for now .

Congrats on the amp. Many on here have your amp or its predecessor mated to a variety of speakers; I can't comment on how any of them sound though. Kef get good reports, standmounts would be R300, LS50 - both need free space. I've got PMC mounted about 4" out from the rear wall and they work fine for me. ATC maybe. We all have different tastes in music so one mans meat is another mans poison. Are your Dali's really that bad? What's the Dali range like for potential upgrade?

I guess a visit to Richer or Sevenoaks, et al, is on the cards.

no the dalis are not bad with it as they were ok with the 6005 but found if your playing something like black sabbath live were the drums are thundering it gets a bit mixed where the bass seems to over take a bit its hard to say what i mean it might be the amp as i am running it in its had about 16hrs so far it might just be the recording its self but if you play dire strates it sounds amazing i did read up on the dalis mk2s i think they are with the double tweter one of them is a ribbon one which i never heard a speaker with one yet .

I believe Ishiwata-san had his mittens in the voicing of Boston's M series, the pairing with Marantz which gathered some favorite show reviews.

Don't forget that most of black Sabbaths back catalogue is from an era where deep controlled bass wasn't even recorded. Geezer butler doesn't cut through like a modern recording, so don't expect your system to turn it into Sunday night at Donnington :)

13 might sound OK, though in my opinion there is no musical content (and I'm a big iommi fan)

Very interesting DM. I have searched the BA site for UK dealers and not one of them stock BA M series, plus put a search in google for UK prices and nothing shows. Strange!

just been reading about my amp and what kind of speakers work well with it as some people are finding issues with some kinds of speakers with this amp but with me its the high bass thats the issue with me . the issue is when playing metal music and turn the vol up to 10 - 11 oclock the high bass gets a bit blured is this to do with my dalis or the amp ? but if you play dire strates , fleetwood mac it sounds amazing as this amp is very strong in its sounds much more bolder sound then the 6005 was so when upgrading to the next up upgrade do i need a natual sounding speakers ? to sort this issue out as i do not want to add bass or do i need a speaker that handles the high and the low bass better ?

Yesterday i got my marantz pm6005 my old amp had up to 80 watt and the amp before that had 50-55 watt in 8 ohm (rated at 65watt pr channel) i thought 45 watt isn't enough, but it's 45 watt rms and more then enough. I use boston a25's which are very neutral, althougt the top is sometimes a bit more noticeable with the marantz PM6005(my amp is new so it might change after i have used it for a few days), but the sound is very good and good bass. I use isoacoustics stands and that is what you should try, not new speakers http://www.thomann.de/gb/isoacoustics.html
