I just found this forum and found it interesting so thought i would join as have some questions of my own and I'm hoping they can be answered.

I got a Panasonic TX32LXD70 tv and I've had it since it first came out , which is not to long ago , but I'm bored of it now and the picture is not the best , i thought i was suppose to be blown away by HD but to me it just looks like a normal picture , I've had about 5 different LCDS models over a short period of time and none of them have been amazing or as good as a CRT picture.

Maybe its cause i didn't have 1080p as the Panasonic is 1080i but would this make a difference?

I'm now seeking a new model with better specs , I'm thinking of a Philips Ambilight , does anyone know if the light is more of a put off or does it really make viewing movies more pleasurable?

Does anyone knows when the new Philips models are out? I'm looking for 32-37" max , price not an issue but would perfer it to be under £1500 if possible, I was looking at the Philips 37PFL9632 its £1110 but there are mixed reviews so I'm not sure , plus its last years model?

I'm really looking for something to enhance my viewing experience and amazing picture quality.

Soz i know its a lot of questions bit any advice is welcome.

Thanks

if your looking for amazing picture quality id look at the plasmas... mainly Panasonics TH37PX70 or TH37PX80, they are not 1080p.. but in 32-37" you can hardly tell the difference (which is why HD isnt brilliant on 32s) Plasma gives deeper colours, better black levels and much better motion handling... and i find philips ambilight more of a "gimmick" and that there TVs are quite unreliable...

I wouldnt go out expecting all flatscreens to be 10x better than CRT;s as flatscreen TVs were produced for High Definition rather than Standard pictures like CRTs

Mmm, the main problem I think you may be experiencing is expecting an HDTV to look better with SD sources. Most SD sources will look better on a top quality CRT compared to an average HDTV as HDTV is designed for HD (hence the name). Get a decent upscaling DVD player and then you'll see the difference. Then get a Blu-Ray player and be blown away.

As per professorhat comment it depends on what you are feeding it.

I've got a Sony 40W2000 LCD and the picture is pretty good with my Sky+ box but was better on my old 29" Sony CRT. My Father has the same TV and he has a NTL Digital box and the picture isn't as good as I get from Sky+ box. I'm hoping to get a SkyHD box soon which will make a difference.

I use my PS3 for watching DVD's which upscales the picture up to 1080p and it looks quite good but when playing a Blu-ray disc the picture goes up another level. I would recommend you buy a PS3 or if you don't want to spend as much an upscaling DVD player.

What are you watching on your TV??

forget lcd mate. look at pioneer 428xd if your buget could move a bit. failing that the panasonic's are good sets, you need sky hd to make the most of broadcasts though

Thanks for the replies.

I got Virgin Media HD box , plus a Philips upscaler 1080i dvd player ......i would like plasma but the max screen size for my room would be 37" and this would be pushing it , as from sofa to where my Television is there is not that much distance.

I seen the Panasonic new Plasma range and not really my thing it seems a bit cheap looking but i have not actually seen it in the shops im just going buy picture.

I have seen some lcd/plasma in televisions shops and there HD pictures seems really good and more clear and vivid colours , when i asked about why the picture is better then i can get , they told me that Virgin Media are rubbish and to go with Sky , is this true?

I would perfer to stay with Virgin Media as i have a great deal with them and i know Sky couldnt beat it.

As the Panasonic TX32LXD70 really does not impress me i am really looking for something that can beat this picture quailty.

Hi Caseyk.

Dont worry about being closer with the plasma,i too was worried about distance from the tv and i found with lcd distance is a far bigger issue.
I recenty bought a panasonic TH42PZ85B 42"Plasma and i have several chairs around the room and even when only 6 feet from the set the picture looks just as good as when im 12 feet away.

I had a 42" LCD about 2 years ago and my viewing distance wasn't that great i just found the size a bit over bearing for my room and hurt my eyes a little bit , i thought it looked a bit stupid but maybe i may give it a try again as like i said that was LCD.....just don't want to end up with something that takes over my room.

Shame they dont make a 32" plasma ......i think ive seen some 37" ones but not sure there are many about?

Yes im terrible at keep buying its all i seem to do ,think i may have a liitle OCD lol ...... so i would perfer something that i will be happy with for sometime without me wanting to change it the next year.
