Hi, I'm extremely new to the Hi-Fi world and have started purchasing components for my system. To date I have the B&W CM7 speakers and the Exposure 3010S Amp. I think I just need a CD player to go with that set-up for now. Any recommendations?

I'm looking at the Cyrus 8SE and Moon CD-1 currently but definitely open to other suggestions,

Thanks in advance for the help, I definitely need all I can get!

The Arcam CD37 is my current favourite - a superbly finished and well balanced CD player with a very good price tag.

Well, for being extremely new you've chosen some wonderful gears. Cyrus is very good, but I think there are some operational quirks that still needs to be straightened out. How about the Naim CD5i?

Thanks for all the suggestions so far, so the Cyrus isn't advisable compared to the Naim? Also, no thoughts on Simaudio's CD-1? What about Primare CD31?

At that price range, assuming you are prepared to consider looking outwith the usual suspects, the Eastern Electric Minimax, Unison Research Unico (probably a used one), also the Cairn Tornado could all be worth checking out. Each has enjoyed good reviews in various magazines.

Three superb CD players there - my favourite is the Cairn though: It's nearly as good as the class-leading CD37, but £150 cheaper!

Yep, I'm amazed more people don't consider these other brands at this price range. Cyrus might be getting all the plaudits but their sound won't necessarily cut it for everyone (as the Unison review in the current WHFS&V states). I'm sure this is partly down to unfamiliarity - EE is Chinese, Cairn are French and Unison Research is Italian - but the quality of each of these players, both audio and build is impressive. Very distinctive too, from a design perspective.
