Hello !

I've done research into new LED TV's, preferably a 50" or 47". I've got my eyes set on a Sony Bravia KDL-50W656 however I'm still not 100% sure if I have selected a decent TV?

My price tag is no higher than £700.

I mainly want an LED TV for gaming (PS4), watch movies and other general use.

Should I wait for the 2014 line up ? Will there be new features on the LED TV's? Or will they be way out of my price range?

Look foward to your suggestions!

Thank you ! :)

hello and welcome to the forum :)

tricky question this, the do I buy 2013 models as they go out or wait for 2014 models? I would say the biggest stumbling block you will have is your price. £700 isn't a lot for a 47" plus tv. Having said that you may find some good bargains on the old models.

i came across this recently, I think its a 2014 model just out, so it may full within your budget in a few months

http://www.totaldigital.biz/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=43_124&products_id=5061

compare to a 2013 model which is slightly lower in the range

http://www.totaldigital.biz/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=43_124&products_id=4900

at the end of the day each year the tvs get better and have more features so you may be better getting last years models?

i can't comment on the 656 though as I've not seen it and would be going off reviews only

best of luck

Hi brad_c. Many of the new models for 2014 are yet to hit the shops, especially in the larger screen sizes. Keep your eyes posted on the site though - we should have a few new sets in the building over the coming weeks!

Do you want 3d?

check out this review of the new sony 42". There should be a 50" which will come down over time, but you'll have to wait and it's not 3d

http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/kdl42w705b-201402233639.htm

also if gaming is your number 1 priority followed by everything else check out the below link

http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/input-lag

the tv you mention comes out really well.

youll have to take into account given the size and budget there will be areas that you'll have to compromise on

Hmmm the Sony KDL50W829 has some nice features on it! Damn! Don't want to throw anymore cash at a TV haha.

To be honest the 3D funtion doesn't bother me if its in the TV or not... its just an extra feature.

Keep on looking at the 50W656 and still can't get my mind made up ! Just don't want to regret in buying the wrong TV. Don't know if I can wait them extra months for the new TV's to show their prices cheaper ;)

Hi brad_c. I'm pleased to say we have a 50W829B in the building and we hope to have our review up in a few days time!

:bounce:

Price won't be reduced though?! haha. Do you expect the 2013 W8 series to drop in price when Sony actually release the new W8 in store?

i just bought a LG 47 " smart tv for £499 great picture and the smart features are really good ,its led and very stylish

Which LG model did you go for?

just a word of caution if your priority is gaming. LG aren't the best for input lag so they might not be the best option for you. You would need to seriously research the models and lag.

I will keep that in mind then! Definintely going for a Sony but still not to sure on which one haha.. Will I notice the rubbish motionflow on the w656 people are claiming about? Compared to the 47w805.
