Hi All,
i hope you are well.
i think i know the answer to this, but just wanted to ratify here. I currently use an AppleTV2 and a BW Zeppelin to stream from my imac to various rooms in my house.
Now i know that the iMac has to be on/running itunes for this to work, but if i were to move my media to a NAS that i could plug in directly to the AppleTV, would it be able to read this media without an instance of itunes, and would the streaming to the Airplay devices work of this too?
i suspect the answer is no, but i am moving property and will mean my imac is now in a bedroom rather than a study, and i'd sooner not have it running all the time if not required.
does anyone have any other recommendations that may work neatly here? new products etc? always open to adding tech :)

thanks so much

If you jailbreak your Apple TV2, you will be able to stream all media off your NAS without the need for iTunes. I used this: http://firecore.com/ Usual Apple TV functionality including AirPlay will not be affected.

sorry to hijack the thread.

Bigboss does your hacked Apple TV play support gapless playback and art work? Also can it be controlled by iPod or iPad?

Thanks

itunes match?

that way all media is stored so you can access via aptv2 without iMac switched on.

Sorry, saw this only today. To answer your questions:

1) I mainly use my Apple TV2 for movies, so cannot comment on gapless playback.

2) Album art work is supported.

3) Yes, it can be controlled by iPod Touch / iPad via Remote HD.
