I have a NAD C545BEE CD player - 4 years old. The buttons are not working and when operating via the remote, the CD plays a bit skips a bit, plays skips etc.
Is it worth opening up for a looksee/sending for repair. Or is it past help?

The button problem seems to have been fairly common on this model.

Personally I'd be looking at a new player. I used to have a C545BEE and though it was OK, you can buy better machines for £200-£250 now. Look at the Denon DCD720AE and the out-going Marantz CD6004 for a bargain player that will out-perform the NAD.

I discovered exactly the same problem this morning with my 4 year old NAD C545BEE. The front buttons don’t respond anymore and with the remote it only plays a few seconds of a track before stopping. Doing some research, it appears that there was a design/manufacture issue with the front buttons which NAD would repair if still under guarantee.

Did you try getting your player repaired in the end?

My parents NAD C545BEE stopped working yesterday... The cd tray will not open, although it is saying open on the display, so the buttons on theirs work, maybe the transport mechanism has failed. Contacted NAD and they said sorry and that I have to contact Sevenoaks for a service (basically, not worth it!!) It was only three years old, pretty poor in my opinion.

Took mine downto my local hifi specialist (HiFi Klubben) in Copenhagen to try and get it repaired today. I've given them a maximum cost of 1500 DKK (150 GBP) to see what they can do.

I picked up the CD player today and it is back working again. They replaced the front panel (65GBP for the part) with the total cost being 1358 DKK (154 GBP) which isn't bad for Denmark.

3 years on my NAD C545BEE front panel problems have returned with my CD player no longer working. Should I go for another repair (last repair cost approx. 150GBP) or invest in a more reliable player?

Considering how much it already cost you I'd be looking to buy something else. It's clearly not a reliable model and it's bound to happen again.

There's lot of decent cd players on second hand market. I'm sure you'll be able to get some money back while selling it in even in condition it's in.

Sorry to the OP for hijacking the thread, but I've just bought a NAD CD-player for my dad (C516BEE).
Is that model also known to have these problems? It comes with a 5 year warranty mind you, so would hope that would cover any such issues...

hi. I don't think they are "known" to have issues, he must've had bad luck. The Nad CD players are very highly regarded.
