Hi,

Well, it finally died, my beloved Arcam Delta 270 CD.

Laser and resistor issues apparently and laser parts are long discontinued.

So it's dead

Hooked up to a Arcam Black Box 3 DAC, what would be a good replacement, please?

New or used, sub £1k

Thanks

£1K would get you a very good condition last model Mac mini and either an iPad or iPod Touch to control it. You could also use an iPhone and probably many other 'smart' type phones.

This suggestion might seem wide of the mark, but you are only looking at a transport and a computer is as good as any, with the benefits of being a lot more versatile with many other uses, including streaming audio.

The 270 could run with or without DAC, I just ran it with. IMHO, never noticed a marked change with or without!

Not considered doing it that way, I'm no purist by any stretch, but I do like to load a CD into a CD player (I'm sure it makes no sense). I thought the whole point of a more expensive cd player was better source quality for the amp to amplify, I know £1k is low compared to some units available though.
