well im a newbie on this forum but most dutch forum members know me by the name of M44.

my system consists of a pair of

rogers Ls3/4C monitor speakers

great sounding monitor. in the mid band its almost like a electrostatic speaker. bass is deep ( could be tighter i admit) and a well deailled but nver "too present"high

lots of detail, great placement, warm relaxed sound

the heart of the system is my favourite amp of all time

the bose 1801 power amp.

this heavy monster is midified and now safe and freq respons is improved. now goes straight to 25khz.

it weighs about 50 kilograms...100pounds.

give 250 watt @ 8 Ohms and has been known to deliver over 1000 watt below 1 Ohm. but i think thats a bit optimistic

sound is warm, strong and organic like.(its full of carbon) greasy seventees sound. ( i love it)

cd player is a

marantz cd85. also modified

anyone who lives in holland ( or visits) is welcome to have a listen.

kind regards robin

This looks pretty cool. I've not had any experience with vintage/older gear bar some old stuff my Dad had, but i don't think it was anywhere in tis league.

Are the speakers one upright and one horizontal or was that just for the photo?

Hi there

...An interesting system indeed ...I must be honest I've never heard of the Bose power amp but I do have a Marantz CD 85 which I've always loved.
How is your 85 modified?

thnx guys.

yes rogers speakers are briliant

there supposed to hang from the wall but ive placed them upright. also gives a bigger sweetspot.

ive had some preety expensive stuff in my living room. also a marantz pm16 , sony ES cd player, jbl century gold speakers. but there's something about vintage, a certain sound that i like. i blame it on the use of carbon and germanium instead of metalfilm resistors and capacitors.

thats also what been done on my marantz cd player. replace all bad elements and use "good "ones. my friend modifies and repairs for a living. he's got the magic fingers so to say.

i use carbon wherever its possible and it makes the sound more ......organic? , i also use a home made carbon interconnect and vd hull skyline hybrid speaker cable. great cable great price. and its the only vd hull i like.

also owned the magnum but everything's gone now.

my system is cheap ( under 1000,- euro) and everyone that has a listen has to pick his jaw from the floor.

the feeling of "beeing there"is quite strong in my set.

kind regards robin
