After thinking, reading reviews and listening to all kinds of stuff for over a year i finally changed my system and decided to bragg about it here 🙂 So i changed my "hi-tech, revolutionary, XXI century" Harman Kardon system (HK 990 + HD 990) for old-school british gear... the Audiolab. Got myself a 8000 Q pre-amp, 2 x 8000 M mono amps and a 8000 CD. Set it up, wired the whole thing up and... LOVE IT !!! Detail and dynamics are absolutely wonderfull, speed is fantastic and bass is out of this world- i'm feeding my sub a direct analog stereo sygnal from the pre-amp and it's much more powerful and controlled, full sounded than using all of those dsp digital systems in the Harman. Now i've got a lot of cable matching to do, cause different sources require different cabling (Apple tv, Blu ray, Sat Box) but for now changed all my cables from Tara labs to Furutech, and for cd and pre amp to amp this works fine. Sometimes to make a step forward in sound you have to make 2 steps back in technology. Loving my Audiolab!!!

Glad your enjoying the audiolabs. May get the 8000CD myself when i can get my player into dealers for a demo. Those mono blocks feel pretty powerful then?...

Congratulations, matey.

The old Audiolab stuff that I have heard have been superb and I bet those monoblocks sound great!

Enjoy.

That's an interesting outcome, though not surprised - the older Audiolab equipment was fine stuff and no reason to have gone downhill now. That HK990, have you sold it on now...???

Gave it to my parents, it's now gonna be driving a pair of Wharfedale Diamond 10.2 and a diamond sub... should be interesting.

On my front: just turned 10 meters of Van Damme interconect wire into 10 x 1m interconnects with Neutrik plugs and rewiring the whole system. Van Damme goes well with my Audiolab gear!

Good stuff. I'm probably going to be moving to an Audiolab based system myself. Got my eye on the 8000P and 8000Q, with probably a Rega Apollo CD player. I was able to try the 8000S integrated amp last year and loved the sound - super tight bass and great dynamics. After demoing it I figured I needed to upgrade my amp. I was running a Denon minisystem at the time. So I first went with a YBA YA201, and then moved on to an Exposure 2010s2. I bought those thinking I'd get the big sound the Audiolab gave and I wanted brands that were a little more upscale. But I'm starting to realize that those brands are more about refinement and less about big sound. Considering that I listen mostly to rock that's what I want. The YBA was too laid back, the Exposure is too lean sounding and somewhat lacking in dynamics. So I'm just going to go back to Audiolab, a sound I know I will like. As for speakers I will either keep my Quads or go with the Dynaudio DM 2/8 or the Monitor Audio RX2.
