Was launched at usd17k. I got it for usd5800 including shipping + PayPal fees. A great steal I know. Yet to hear it..just been lugging it to all the pubs in my place.

Since everyone is here...i take this opportunity to thank insider9 for everything . Thanks buddy...:)

Hey Newlash, whatever this is for. You're welcome my friend *blush*

Looking forward to hear your thoughts on the new toy. Don't be shy to be enthusiastic about your write up. It reads and looks like a special bit of kit.

Now that's what I call love, dedication and respect to your HiFi.

Taking your new amplifier for a good drink up before getting down to the business ( of listening *wink*).

I can divide my observations into mainly 3 points.

1. What strikes me on every track very distinctly, is what is actually missing from what I knew before. I guess the noise floor is lower now. So it's just probably music coming out of the speakers. Cutting off the hiss, all the back ground noise. Sounds very different from before.

2. Exceptional bass, never knew the PMC's could sound this potent. Never ever knew some of my tracks had that unreal sub bass.

3. Increased clairty. I wouldn't claim to hearing new detail I never heard before. But the sound feels more pure. And there is a wicked sense of rythm. Iam not missing my chord dac one bit.

Summing all the above up, iam just running through all my favourite tracks as I write this. Just to hear them in new light :)

The devialet d-premier is a very definite and big improvement on my previous chord2qute + parasound combination. Everything has been increased, clairty, rythm, musicality and bass.

My only problem now is the same excess bass I also complained about in my schiit vidaar review . Though it doesn't sound unruly with the devialet. Iam certainly getting bass boom on some tracks now. Will get out the umik-1 this afternoon and see what I do about it.

And all this sound quality just coming out of the CCA via optical -in , and tidal from wxc50 via co-axial. Iam yet to play my high quality HD tracks downloads , will report back. Thanks for reading. Iam really really happy with my purchase and definitely a upgrade in every sense of the word :)

Excellent Newlash! is this an impulse buy? or something that's been in the planning?  What other components will you be hooking it up with?

It was a planned buy from USA. But had to wait for my friend to bring it down. I presently only have a CCA and a Yamaha wxc-50 connected digitally. I guess my next purchase has to be a all digital streamer with room correction. And maybe some room treatments too.

Innuous?... I'm loving mine, still ploughing through my CD collection, ripped about 600 so far and only used 20 % storage.

May you have endless hours of enjoyment with the Devialet.

Wow, so someone took an $11,000 hit on the depreciation on this amp?

Almost everything depreciates. Especially electronics. Some people can take bigger hits than others. If nobody was prepared to take a hit, nothing new would get bought and nothing would move forward.

It's only $11,000 if someone paid full price for it and then sold it on. If the dealer sold it he may not have lost much, if anything.

Not much new is getting sold in hi-fi. Just look at the Electrocompaniet thread.

Hi-fi has gotten like houses. Most of the sales are used items.

The question that each person can ask themselves is "Would I be happy taking an $11,000 loss on an amplifier?"

In the space of how many years? How old is the amplifier?

I’m sure I have mentioned this before, newlash, but when I first heard a Dev about six or seven years ago perhaps, I’d never heard such a disappearing trick. I simply could not identify anything that sounded like an amp functioning! That may be what you’re experiencing now?

I suspect it’s still as inaudible as anything I’ve ever experienced, even the mighty d’Agostino Momentums I heard last autumn. They were shockingly enormous in every respect, including price, but maybe not as self effacing as the Devialet.

I hope you’ll love it! Now you just need an Aurender or Melco to render your files!

You may not need one of those. I get great SQ just using a Mac Mini.

It's noone else's concern what a person pays for a piece of kit

Oh yes it is. As that establishes the going rate. Over a sufficient amount of transactions.

This is one of the good things about ebay as the price paid is a public record.

Hope all fine your end. The problem with the first devialet d -premiers is that soon after launch, devialet announced a upgrade program which again wasn't cheap. So most folks bit the bullet and upgraded. And some folks who considered a 17k amp as their end game, didn't bother to pay up and upgrade. And it is these units that are coming in the market for second sale.

And considering the 11k depreciation, it is because the latest devialet's have room correction, and the latest app doesn't support my d-premier. So who else would buy a amp that doesn't work with the latest app or firmware.

Only guys like me probably looking for value for money. I could always add a cutting edge digital front end. And bring it upto date . So that's was my stream of thought when I bought it. Iam glad I bought it for a steal, but I surely sympathise with the first owner .

For your kind words :)

After some head scratching and very deep thought. I realised that I had to shift my 2 channel system back to my dining.

First, my filled up form to GIK acoustics in India went unreplied. And after much querying I found that there were a lot of folks around my place touting sound meters to correct my room. And not all of them knew much about sound as per my conversations on phone.

So there died my system in my small living room of 11x17ft.

My wife who was so happy with me junking my 2 channel system , went for her afternoon nap. And I shifted the devialet with the PMC's to my dining room again.

I was supposed to wake my wife up at 1630 today, for my daughter's music class. And I started playing her favourite tracks at 1600. And when I brought her out at 1630 as promised, she was blown by the improvement in sound.

As I mentioned before, my wife uses my system almost 8 hrs a day even when iam not there. So she knows about sound.

And 20 mins into listening, she herself suggested we keep the system in the dining room from now on. So target achieved.

So all in all the devialet is a great peice of kit, and especially so considering that I got it for a bargain. Iam yet to try her out completely. Will post a review thread as soon as I can. Thanks a lot for reading :)

Thanks a ton kubs :)

But honestly.. I had shifted the speakers to my dining on a purely experimental basis. Didn't realise that with my PMC's in open air, driven by the devialet , could even register an improvement in my wife's ears.

They would rather skip the long boring conversation about room acoustics so just say it sounds good.
Job done.

They can enjoy music from most sources without thinking about the equipment like men.
They just don't give a **** and are more carefree as a result.

The value for money thing is a funny thing. It's all relative.

Is value for money buying an amplifier for $17000 and selling it for $6000 a few years later value for money? I think everyone would agree on the answer to that.

Is value for money buying a $17k Devialet amplifier for $6k? Some would think so. Other's wouldn't.

Is value for money buying a $2000 new amplifer (2 watt SET) that sounds better than the $6k Devialet on some speakers and worse on others? Debatable. Depends on the speakers.

Is value for money buying an amplifier (high end used pro amp) that will be in the same ballpark as the Devialet for sound quality, but which needs to be kept outside the listening room for $250? Debatable.

Is value for money buying a Japanese integrated amp for $30 and changing the speakers? Depends on the speakers.

They would give a **** if they knew the cost of said equipment.
(Not just women, partners in general).
