Dear all,

Just signed up but already a few months browsing this site and forum.

In my appartment I have assembled a couple of 2nd hand speakers for my home cinema set and I was interested in what you guys think of it. I choose B&W 'cause my dad has owned a couple of B&W pairs on his hifi for years.

Set-up in an appartment main living room (appr 5x4 m)

A/V receiver (new): Denon AVR-1910

Front R/L speakers: B&W 601's (1st serie) (bi-amped)

Surrounds R/L: B&W LM1 silver & on stands (2nd hand bargain)

Front: B&W HTM7, bi-wired (2nd hand bargain, only paid 200€ for it 3 years old)

Subwoofer: BK Gemini II (because of the good review on the website)

Cable: StraightWire Musicable for all front speakers and Inakustik Premium Speaker Cable Silver (5m each, but not long enough :( )

TV: Samsung LE32B650

DVD player: Panasonic DMR-EH57, but want to switch to Blu-Ray (probably Sony BD360 or PS3 Slim)

HDMI cables Inakustik Premium

So what do you think?

- upgrade to a better sub (in B&W series)?

- replacing center HTM7 to a CC6 series (downstep I know, but now not in right color and is actually too big but I haven't got a decent TV-furniter yet)

- does the sony BD360 and/or PS3 slim make a lot of cooling/spinning noise while playing a disc, what about start up times? (I hate that right now on my panasonic DVD player, it's not much but it distracts me once and a while).

Thanks for reading and replying,

Joris,

It sounds like you've been very enterprising! I would personally go for the Sony Blu-ray player, assuming it has been reduced in price to the same extent as in the UK. I have the Sony BDP-S350 and it's completely silent - in marked contrast with my Panasonic DVD recorder.

Just picked up a brand new BDP-S360 and totally loving it already. Also in Belgium a price drop, but can also be due to Sales at the moment, picekd it up for 149? (50? discount) and with 2 Blu-Ray Discs for free (Da Vinci Code and Angels&Demons: Sony Benelux action).

I have a spare pair of Solid's HTM2 (or HCM2), as you might now, also from B&W factory. Can anybody recommend them using them as back speakers in a 7.1 setup with my AVR-1910 in a rather small living room (4x5 m)? Right now my fronts are bi-amped.

Joris
