Ok, this is a long one, apologies at the start. I’m on standby at the moment so lots of time to read this forum. I bought my 2 channel system in January (from Music Matters Leamington, who were very helpful and patient, would recommend as a very satisfied customer) this year and was happy with it. I was also happy to be able to hear the difference between the Marantz PM6004 and the Rega, considering I have ‘slight’ industrial deafness. But, after spending way too much time on this forum started having doubts!!!! The sound stage isn’t right, too much bass, clipping, etc. etc. Even (right next to the speaker) comparing FLAC to CD, although then listened to a totally different artist on FLAC and was happy.

Anyway arrived home tonight and ‘Columbia Original Album Classics Thelonious Monk’ is on the floor waiting for me. So after shower etc. put on first disc, started umming and ahhing at sound stage, but then got distracted and suddenly realised this sounds good and yes the sound stage is good not too much bass, I’m enjoying the music. So I will stop fiddling, I’ve an old Triumph Herald for that in the garage. I’m thoroughly enjoying this CD.

Anyway must remind myself that I spent this money to start enjoying the music again (and I am). I’m really enjoying my re-acquaintance with vinyl (I have listened to vinyl over the past ten years but really back into it now). I also must say that I enjoy reading the threads on this forum, very enjoyable.

But I think in the very near future I will be upgrading the turntable!! Think I’ll buy the Rega PSU, purely for laziness sake of not having to move belt to listen to 45’s and of course hoping the SQ will improve as well ;)

So ok maybe the forum is not so evil after all.

Thanks to everyone for their advice and entertainment.

I have a Triumph Spitfire and 2000 in the garage for fiddling with too — I agree with the sentiments.

Nice post. Yes, it's far too easy to get obsessed with tweaking, and forgetting why you bought it - for the music!

However, just once in a while you find something new and can get a lot of fun from it. Like I have done recently with my Touch.

Ooooh, what Herald have you got? I'm a BIG Triumph nut.

Back on topic - try and enjoy the music and not worry about soundstage, detail, bass depth etc etc.

Hi penguin, yes thats what I decided tonight, listen to the music and enjoy

The Herald is a 13/60 convertable on the road but a bit tatty, so I should be spending time on that

not fiddling with HiFi.

Trouble is really enjoying listening to music now..and it does seem a bit cold to go into garage,

mabe I need a system in there...you see it never stops!!!!!!!!!!

Used to own a white 13?60 saloon, along with Dolomite (original 1972), Herald 1200 and a Dolly Sprint.

This picture was taken in my village last summer.

My third car was a Trimuph 1500 TC (GJN 229N). If it had been a year younger it would have been a Dolomite. It eventually died on me and I bought my first new car, a Maestro!!

Back to TTs, I've got round the belt shifting speed change issue by buying a second turntable!

My cousin had a 1500 TC. Was yours in a nasty mustard colour?

My first car was a blue 1500 TC inherited from my grandmother.

It was decided her driving days were over when she related how she'd nearly run over some children, " I was reversing out of my drive when suddenly some instinct made me look round"...

Quite a nippy beast but had a disagreement with a wall a few years later.

Deffo Vitesse. You'll have the charm of the Herald with a beefed up engine and gearbox. Go for the MKII 2.0 ltr, rather than 1.6 four cylinder, as it's a watered down TR6 straight six engine. :)
