I am also thinking of buying these. The reviews are great.
I just don't understand why there is no tone control on the amplifier. Can someone explain this?

I just don't understand why there is no tone control on the amplifier. Can someone explain this?[/quote]Briefly, because anything in the signal path detracts from the idea of high fidelity. And if an amp is good enough, you shouldn't have to compensate by using tone controls. So by inference, any amp without tone controls is saying it's good enough.

As for the X-Rays, haven't heard the v8 series, but the v3 (and an X-80) is the best stereo I've ever had. 'Beguiling' is the best word I can think of, particularly with a female vocal, though quite revealing (and not in a good way) of harsh modern production.
