Musical Fidelity and pricing strategy

I stumbled across an amazing offer from a North-East based dealer the other day on a current Musical Fidelity model series- the A1008 Amplifier and CD Player..... combined these retail for over £6000 and had very good reviews at this pricepoint, but now it would seem MF are using this particular dealer to shift excess stock and both cd player and amp can be had for £2200 in total (or £1100 sperately)!!!

Now you can look at this in one of 2 ways..... If you bought the electronics at full retail I expect you will be pretty miffed as you see your second hand value plummet through the floor. If however you are on the lookout for a new amp / cd player / both then this seems like unbelievable value!

MF have history with this as well.... their superchargers were heavily discounted last year from their initial RRP... I imagine that this sales tactic will alienate quite a few of their existing customer base. Certainly a risky tactic!

If you wanted to complete the system you could do worse than add a pair of the outgoing Dali Helicon 800..... now available at around £2500 instead of the £4000 they used to retail at!

This is very interesting... Could you give me the details of the dealer? Thank you.

Matching an Arcam AVR600 to a pair of PMC OB1i speakers, is a Musical Fidelity Supercharger (or two) a realistic upgrade path for the future?

I've got a massive grin enjoying my very first listen to my new MF 3.5 amp and 3.5 CD, bought ex-demo today for two thirds of list.

I understand that MF is now committed to concetrating on very high end, hence the offers on the 3.5 etc. I'm happy to be subsidised by folk willing to spend 10 times my budget on MF high end gear

My 15 year old MF gear lasted really well, with my Electra E60 tuner sounding great through the new amp. For me the MF sound is just right. I'm happy that my new gear will last me fine and represents excellent value compared to the current "5 star" favourites

There are excellent ex demo offers around at the moment on A5.5 and A1008 gear.

Kevin, enjoy your new gear mate!

Yay! I'm over 1000 posts. Yahooooo!!!!!!!

Nice one Will. It is not just Musical Fidelity who have 'odd pricing strategies' at the moment. We are in pretty much in uncharted economic times with interest rates at virtually zero, a low pound to other currencies and yet difficulties borrowing. Prices going down are a cause to celebrate, except for the poor person who bought full price.
