Multi-speaker stereo system

Hi,

I was wondering, how do clubs, bars etc have a multi stereo speaker setup? Do they use multiple amplifiers from one source or have one large amplifier with multiple L / R speakers connected to it? What about subwoofers?

For example a system Panasonic sells like this "http://www.panasonic.com/uk/consumer/home-entertainment/hi-fi/sc-max370eb.html"

I really want to customise my own stereo system with multiple subwoofers & speakers, but how? where to start?

Regards.

Once you have more than 2 speakers, it will no longer be Stereo.

If you want to go multi speaker, you are getting into Home Theater territory and multi channel music.

This is true. Once out of a two speaker system it is not, in effect, stereo.

Multiple speaker systems are another matter entIrely.

Club systems are usually 'distributed music systems', ie each area will have its own amplifier(s) and speakers that should have a level set apropriate to that area.

If there is a stage, there will usually be a main stereo system.

Sub woofers will be hooked up at line level, daisy chain as many amps/active subs as you want.

Easy peasy.

This is wrong. Once out of a two speaker system it can still be stereo, just not two-channel stereo.

Any sort of music system for a large public space will use multiple amplifers. The more accomplished systems will have signal processing which corrects for frequency response and time delays between the various areas.

Getting a cohenrent sound at home using multiple speakers is very difficult. It is easy to arrive at the audio equivalent of a dogs breakfast.

Probably the easiest way to support multiple speakers is to use an AVR which has some of the basic tools you need to adjust for time delay and to integrate speakers with different frequency reponses and maybe a sub.

My personal view is if you want stereo, then the best way to get it is with 2 speakers.

Multiple speaker stereo is stereo - provided left is left and rtight is right.

Go with an AVamp 7+channel with two sub outputs is the simple answer to your querie.

Or go with using speaker A/B speaker outs on your amp.

That is if you're looking at normal listening levels.
