Wonder why you refer to this 2017 article. Like so many, Audirvana does the first unfold, not to be mistaken for the last unfold that is only allowed in hardware only.
After the bankruptcy of MQA Tidal offers all highres in Flac, no reason to use MQA hardware anymore.
