Hi,

I'm looking for a utility that can rename mp3 files etc from their Tags, organise into directories according to the artist, fix tags with missing information etc. I used to use a program but I can't remember what its called and I know people have mentioned some they use but I can't find the threads.

Can anyone help please? Windows software only please.

MP3 Tag will rename files by tag, aswell as many other handy things too. ITunes will organise folder structure by artist by default. Media Monkey can infer tag info from missing information.

I don't know of one program that does everything, but I've not researched the subject extensively.

I tend to stick with MP3 Tag (which tags other formats too including FLAC). It will try to lookup tag info if you ask it to. It took me an hour or so of playing until I'd got happy with the way it handled strings for filename creation but once you've done that it's a joy. You can fix a really messed up set of tags in no time.

Media Monkey Gold is brilliant for handling large libraries. It's ITunes on steroids and has many features which make handling my 37500 track library reasonably hassle free. It's happy to work with FLAC too, and apparently it seamlessly integrates with Apple and other MP3 players (yes there are alternatives to the IPod), but I've not tried it with my clunky Philips player.

If you can find out what program does everything I'll give it a whirl.

Are you thinking of Foobar or WinAmp? I've not tried recent incarnatons of those so don't know what they'll do. Out of interest does anybody use Windows Media Player for music?

I use Tag and Rename. Brilliant little program. Also looks up on the internet for the album and then you can add all the info you need.

Also allows you to move tags around and also to add information to multiple files in one go.
