motion smearing problems

my sony lcd seems to have a bit of trouble with smearing under fast motion or motion of lit objects in dark scenes. Im using component video connection from my dvd player. any help much appreciated.

Part of the joys of owning a LCD I am affraid but you may find that if you connect your dvd player via HDMI that it may help.
