What is currently the best home conema amp for both music and movies. I am looking to get a dedicated blu-ray player and CD player coupled with my Quad 22L2s and want to get the best out of them. I appreciate home cinema amps are not the most musical but what is currently the best compromise?

I already have a Pioneer VSX2011 so it needs to be better than this. Arcam? Onkyo? Another Pioneer?

Comments please.

With most receivers costing less than a few thousand quid you are best buying a separate 2 channel amp if music is that important to you.

In my opinion though the Pioneer's lack a bit of oomph and detail musically, Onkyo's can be OK further up the range but are bright, Arcam are good but lack features. Sony are usually are good bet for all round Sonyness.

Why not keep the pioneer and buy a seperate 2 channel amp to drive left and right? Best of both worlds then (I personally have a denon av amp and an arcam A85 on left and right duty)

If its within your budget, based on other reviews etc I'd suggest waiting for a WHF review or finding a demo somewhere of the Marantz 8003 pre/power combo - thats what I'm waiting for to upgrade from my Denon AVR4306 - which I haven't been over-impressed with on a musical score.
