Im thinking of buying the alumni 5.1 speaker pack and a onkyo 606 amp. but im not just wanting a set of speakers that are good for watching movies with i want a set that are powerful for music cds to, are the alumni set as good as the sale guy in the shop makes them sound . any advice?

Can I qualify this reply by saying that using a surround system to play Stereo CD's is always going to be a compromise.

That said the MS package you have asked about is good but for music you might find the sound to be a little cold and bright IMHO.

Your own ears are your best guide - ask the shop guy for a demo and take a few favorite CD's with you. If you have time demo against a pair of MS speakers and an amp that are at a similar price point to your intended purchase.
