Hello guys,

I auditioned today a pair of monitor audio RX6 and then right after I switched to a pair of RX8. The experience was excellent. I listened to several types of music, from jazz to disco and classical and it was like I had the whole orchestra in front of me and I could listen to each instrument separately. The singers where in the same room with me. Now comparing the two models: RX6 was great enough but RX8 had better bass and they sounded slightly fuller and richer. Now the thing is that the RX6s where brand new: I was the first customer to audition them and the first person to listen to them. Was that difference mainly due to that the speakers where new and not run in?
Will I still have that bass difference if I use the speakers with a subwoofer, when I listen to music? Or does it worth to upgrade the AV12 package for 350 euros and get the RX8s instead of the RX6?

Finally which Recievers do you suggest with these speakers? I am thinking between the Pioneer SC-LX82, the yamaha Z7 and the sony 5400. However all these are sold by different shops here in Cyprus so I cannot test them with the Monitor Audios. The guy who sells MAs has Marantz recievers.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

I definitely think that you need to go and hear the RX6s again once they're run in.

It's not really a fair comparison when one set of speakers are 'straight out of the box'.

Because the RX series have been given a far more laid back signature over the previous RS series, they now suit ar more amplification than the RS series did. Because of this, they will suit any of the manuacturers you have mentioned (although haven't heard the Sony ones, so can't comment there). For me, the Z7 is the best available under £2k as far as processing goes, and the Pioneer has a very fast and attacking sound due to it's digital amplification, along with some very useful features. The Marantz will be a strong contender as far as music is concerned.

As suggested, do try and hear some. You could see if you can 'home loan' the RX model you're interested in and take them along to the other dealers to try with the amplifiers on your shortlist. Or if you're quite set on buyin them, buy them and take them along.
