Assuming that movies and music take an equal amount of your time, If you had to live with only 2 speakers for a while which of these would prefer ? Has anyone listened to them without a sub. involved ?

Thank you,

Thank you,

Not listened to them without a sub, and to be honest I've only compared the old R90s to the M1s. I think that the MA ones are better and the HD versions are supposed to have improved on the old ones.

i think it would be a close call, both sats have won awards this year as the base for their AV systems.

I think it would be down to which you like the look off also, for me I went for M1's for front L/R.

Either way i probably would not run either without a sub, I know the B&W's only go down to 80 Hz or so.

If your not getting a sub I would think about some MA silver RX1/2's or B&W 686/5's.

hi

I have 2 rooms done with the HD range. I often use them without the sub and everything still sounds great. not sure what the M1s are like in comparrision but I would highly recommend the HD's

If it was my personal choice, itd be the MA's, but then I'm not a fan of curvy lifestyle speakers. The traditional box never goes out of fashion.

Thanks all for the replies. I though of getting just 2 satellites first as I haven't made up my
mind whether I want the 5.1 or use these as rears and get bigger
speakers as fronts.

I did listen to both systems again yesterday. It seemed to me that the MA had slightly better stereo separation. Does it make sense to talk about that in movies though? They both seem very very good with movies, perhaps impressive, but less so with music. Without the sub the speakers were far less effective and that was true for music as well, although even without the sub they didn't seem worse than a mini hifi. I think they both only go down to 80hz but right now all I have is a Squeezebox Boom that most likely doesn't go below 80hz either.

The both look very nice to me but as rears on a wall I would prefer the curvy M1s. Tough choice!

Which mid-range amplifiers would you recommend ? I listened to the MA with the Yamaha 765. This combination seemed brighter than the Pioneer-B&W.

If your going with the M1's I would suggest the Denon 1910, they sound great together

I had in mind the Yamaha 1065 or a similar Pioneer Model.

However for speakers now I am also thinking of the M&K K7 for fronts and the K15 for rears. With the addition of a 300£ sub. it would cost about the same as the MT-25. Though I prefer the MT-25 looks I am thinking that the M&K could be better.
