I am buying new speakers for my Denon DAB mini and last month's review of speakers in my price range was interesting ....but why no mention of Monitor Audio BR1s?

They are not included in the listings at the back of the magazine nor can I find any mention of them in the Review forum of this site. They are mentioned by other forum members, generally favourably.

Have they not been reviewed by What Hi-Fi? for some reason I should know about? Are you sparing the blushes of Monitor Audio because they are poor in some way?

I only occasionally buy new AV gear but I always consult What HiFi? first. That’s why I have the brilliant Denon mini and a new Philips 32PFL7404 (cracking TV) so what is it with the BR1s?

Regards,

Chris

I listened to them a while back. They are decent speakers and worth a listen if you're looking a small pair of speakers on a budget. There's lots of decent kit around and not all of it get's a review in WHF. Worth a listen though I'd say if you can audio then. If not, pick something you can audition. 🙂

Thanks both for your comments. I mention the BR1s because my local Sevenoaks shop is offering them for £119 which sounds like a good deal. I do not want to go any bigger than this size so I have ruled out Wharfedale 10.1s etc as they are just too big for my setting. The spec of the B1s interest me as they have a 5.5" main speaker as oppose to the usual 4" speaker.

Also, I have mentioned Q Acoustics 2010s in a couple of HI-Fi shops but have been told that they are very average by the sales staff which is contrary to the What-Hi-Fi? review and I have been pointed in other directions, like Wharfedale 10.0s or BR1s.

Regards, Chris

i would go and have a listen i have them at the front of my home cinema and they are classy looking and sound really tight and controlled. thats with movies soundtracks and mtv. If you after a deep bass/sound or loud volumes then give these miss. but for a detailed look the price you say £120 is a steal

That is a good deal. Its the price I paid for them about 18 months ago. Checked out 3 sites the other day and cheapest I could find was £159.

heard br1 today connected via sony hd500.sounded to me more balanced than the br2's.less of that midrange grate .although was not a proper listen with good music.
