Modern rivals for the Celestion A2

So, I just joined this forum in the hopes that someone here could point me in the right direction.

I've been a huge Celestion fan for over 15 years now. The pinnacle of my Celestion-speaker-swapping was a mint condition pair of A2 speakers. They are standing beside my desk and I absolutely love them. As far as I'm concerned they are the perfect speaker.

Unfortunately, they are also large. Pretty darn large. And since my girlfriend and I moved to our new home, they have been taking up the better part of my work room.

In short, what I'm trying to find out is: is there a modern (as in, that I can buy in the stores at the moment) and "small" (ie. smaller) rival for the brilliant speaker that is the Celestion A2. Something that can handle metal one day as well as classical music the other, coupled with that tight bass and that titanium tweeter crips high.

Other, more modern Celestion speakers I own are the Celestion C-series and the AVF302, and although very good these are no match for the A2.

You will loose something when dowsizing. If you want to keep bass you'll probably need to give the smaller speakers lots of watts. Totem makes some big sounding small speakers with crisp treble. But they need lots of power to shine. you must try them carefully they will be different then your celestions.

Thanks for the quick replies, guys.

As far as budget is concerned, I'm looking to stay under 2500€-3000€/pair. So not high-end, but not budget either. They do not have to be floorstanding, by the way. Bookshelf speakers would be fine too, if they can match the tight bass of the A2.

Furthermore, I have no special attachment to the amplifier in my work room; it's a Cambridge Audio Azur, it has been working fine for years now but could probably also do with an upgrade, so if any of you have a fantastic combination of amplifier and speakers I should check out, please don't hold back.

I was going to suggest Spendor or Harbeth... both very natural sounding loud speakers, but personally, I prefer Harbeth.

If you could find a second hand Accuphase combined with some Harbeth P3 ESR or SHL5+ you wouldn't be disappointed... Electrocompaniet would be another good choice of amp

Try and home demo where possible.
