Mini remote of Yamaha A2010 for Zone 2

Hello, could someone tell me how these work? Do you need to be in the same room as the receiver in order to use them or, can you be in totally different room and control the zone 2 from there with this mini remotes?

If you have a smartphone, its probably easier to download the free app and use your phone to control the volume. You can go anywhere in the house and control the volume. The remotes you have to be in range for them to work
