meridian G08 or Marantz Sa7 for classical music.

I love my classical music.

I did own a meridian G08 which i thought was excellent on symphonic music and voice.But on close miked recordings of piano and harpsichord the sound felt just too close and intense and i had turn the volume levels right down.

Anyone heard the flagship Marantz cd player.What do you make of it?Its apparantly highly detailed but understated sound might be just what i am after.

It sounds like Marantz have gone for this more relaxed / analogue sound in their current player range; this is a characteristic of the SA7001-KI. The kind of player you could sit with for hours on end and enjoys classical. I can't speak for the higher end Marantz player, but it sounds as if this is perhaps a common link?
