I would like to build a media centre to play my lossless music files via my external DAC and play my 1080p HD rips via an HDMI v1.3. I'm happy to consider other solutions such as a readymade system, e.g., HD Digitech HDX-1000 1TB. I'd like the unit to be fanless to eliminate any noise.

I came across the mCubed HFX Classic Heatsink Case, which is a fanless case and is designed to work with fanless CPU cooler, graphics card and PSU. Has anyone here using this HFX Classic Heatsink Case? I would appreciate your comments

Alternatively, I would also be grateful if people could post the specs of their computer based music/HD video system.

My system isn't fanless. I use 1 14cm Yate Loon exhaust fan at approx 550rpm. My system is effectively silent though. Quieter than my CD player transport anyway.

Antec Fusion Max Case
Silverstone Nightjar Fanless PSU
AMD 4850 Processor
Scythe Mini Ninja passive Processor cooler
HIS ATI 4850 512Mb Graphics
Arctic Cooling S1R2 passive graphics cooler
2 Samsung Spinpoint F1 3.5" Hard drives
DVD RW
4Gb Geil 800MHz RAM
Gigabyte ?? 790 Motherboard

In order to use HD audio I'd need to rethink my graphic card option as it has 2 DVI-I and one SVHS outputs. Downloaded 1080 video play smoothly enough though so the rest of the system can cope no problem. Oh yeah, a Bluray rather than DVD RW would be needed by you.

If you want the granddaddy of quiet PCs the I can highly recommend HUSH TECHNOLOGIES. These are brilliant PCs that are housed inside giant aluminium heatsink. I've been running one for 5 years (as a download / music / photo server) and it's never put a foot wrong. They are very well made but possibly a little more expensive than other "very quiet but not silent" cases. if you're more than 30cm away from mine you can't even hear the HDD spin up (the only noise it emmits)

Hope that helps

Asus P5QL-PRO Socket 775 61.00 61.00
Intel Core2Duo E7400 2.8Ghz Dual Core 1066FSB 91.00
Team Elite2Gb DDR2-PC6400 5-5-5-15 22.13 22.13
Samsung EcoGreen F1 32Mb Cache HD103UI 7200rpm 64.00

I would need to build it, but the price is very attractive, it's around a third of the price of the Hush Technology E5 which costs around 3000 Aero! What do people think? Which is better value?
