When I was reading the review of the Naim HDX hard disk player. I was wondering why record companies couldn't release the actually session files to be played by such devices. Surely this would make CDs and vinyl redundant. I'm guessing that they could but there are practical issues because very few people own such devices. Also storage issues etc. But could this be the future of hifi?

It's no the same thing that you're after DV, but it's about the best there is currently I think, Linn offer Master quality downloads directly from their site. Had a glimpse a few months ago and it wasn't quite as expensive as I thought. Nice idea but I'd still like to have the product in hand for some time yet I hope...!

Those Master quality downloads from Linn are ridiculously expensive.

Anyway like I've stated in other threads I like you prefer to own something physical also. However, why can't they make the files on optical media like a DVD? Why couldn't they do this instead of SACD or DVD-A?
