Hi, I am currently using a PS3 with toslink out to Naimuniti for movies, and more importantly, concert DVDs and Blu-Rays

I am wondering aloud about if getting the UD5005 will improve my movie experience as well as playing SACDs?

Will the UD5005 improve the sound quality over the PS3?

Will the UD5005 output 24/96 via its coxial digital out instead of the 48khz limit on PS3 toslink? This is particularly important for those lovely 24/96 PCM concerts?

Will the UD5005 play my mkv backups? If not, should I use a spare MacBook for the purpose instead?

Thanks for any advice.

I am sorry to push, but is definitely very interested to see if any have gotten their hands on this UD5005 to comment?

Hi there,

I have had the UD5005 since Christmas. I'm afraid I cannot comment in relation to your experiences with the PS3. Nor can I confirm if the SPDIF out supports 24/96 since I've connected to my AV amp via HDMI.

I can confirm though that overall the unit is very good. Picture and sound quality of BD are excellent. SACD play as they should - I believe that the unit supports DSD streaming but for some reason the Marantz SR7005 doesn't, and therefore I get PCM out from the UD5005.

For networking I use it to watch video including HD camcorder footage converted to several different formats. Generally MPEG and M2TS containers work well. MP4 and MKV is a little less certain. I've found that MKV files created by the DIVX conversion software to any standard including DIVX HD plus work extremely well. Conversion to AVC MKV by other software is less robust - don't know why.
