The Marantz PM6005 has the same DAC ( CS4398 ) as the CD6005.

Option 1 ;

Marantz PM6005 + CD6005, connection is analogue (you use the DAC from the cd player)

Option 2 ;

Marantz PM6005 + blurayplayer (for example), connection is digital (so you use the DAC of the amp)

Will the soundquality of both options be the same ? Just curious ;)

If anything the blu ray player would be better since you're putting the digital to analog conversion at the end of the chain inside the amp rather than carrying an analogue signal along which has more chance of being 'tainted'. Theoretical though - I very much doubt any difference would be audible.

Remember that CD is 30+ years old. Even the cheapest of cheap drives inside computers can read all the data off a CD error free and at something like 72x speed.

The disadvantage of a Blu ray player is likely to be its display and remote control which won't be as usuable as ones designed for CD.

You could of course connect the CD6005 to the PM6005 digitally as the former has digital outs.

Chris

Of course, but when you own the PM6005...............why buy the expensive CD6005 player when most people already have a DVD or bluray player with digital outs ?

The CD6005 has a USB port and so allows you to play music files from USB stick or USB hard drive, or iPhone which is important to me - don't think you can do that with the PM6005 alone.
