Marantz MCR 603 and Apple Lossless

Hi Everyone,

I was just about to push the button and buy a Marantz MCR603 (from Hifix.co.uk) but then I realised that I couldn't see any mention of Apple Lossless support. Looking into I see that the the £40 Airplay upgrade utilises Apple Lossless to stream from iPods etc but all I want to do is connect the 603 to my ethernet network and stream from my iMac. Does anyone know if I still need the Airplay upgrade to do this?

Are you using iTunes? If so, then the AirPlay upgrade would be needed to stream to the 603. As I understand it, you can stream from a PC that isn't using iTunes. As you'll be using an iMac, I'm assuming you'd need it.

Thanks for the reply. I will be using iTunes so it looks like the upgrade is required then. More head scratching required I think. I have been weighing up between the 603 and going the Sonos ZP120 route. Mmmmmmm

Just interested if you reached a decision and/or did any testing on the marantz mcr603 v. sonos 120 question? I've been trying to find a hifi shop that'll let me listen to them side by side, with the same speakers, and have totally failed...

For me, it'd be nice to have the multiroom capability, but I'ld like to know if there's a price in sound quality before going down the sonos route.
