Running it now.

No idea what it's for or what will be different afterwards.

I haven't experienced any 'bugs' with it, so far, so I have no 'fixes' to look forward to.

I have the auto alert toggled to 'on' so, when I powered the Marantz on this morning, it just came up on screen requesting permission to run the update.

You can check manually by pressing 'menu', then scrolling down to 'other' (enter), then scroll down to 'Firmware Update' (enter), then 'check for update' (enter).

It will either find an update or (if it's already up-to-date) display 'Latest Firmware'.

If it is up-to-date, just keep pressing 'return' (left arrow) until you are back to where you started.

(Suggest you do firmware downloads with ethernet cable connected directly between M-CR603 and your router.)

Thanks Chebby.

I've got mine connected via ethernet permanently anyway, and was sure I'd set mine to automatic update when I first set it up, but I don't recall seeing any message on screen when I switched it on this morning.

I will go through the procedures to check it out.

.

Showing Latest Firmware so OK at present.

Mine is just less than a month old and I ran the latest firmware update when I first set it up so presumably there was nothing new to add.

.

I thought the same thing. (Mine was first powered up with a full download of the latest firmware on 15th March with no further updates until today.)

Perhaps they do it on a serial number/batch basis. (To avoid crashing a server or whatever.)

Another WHF member reported a firmware update on the 27th April but my machine didn't alert me on that one.

Yeah mine uploaded this morning as well; took about 25mins

I do mine via the ethernet wireless bridge and have no issues what so ever

Hi,

What Ethernet Wireless Bridge do you use? Does this in effect five full WiFi functionality to the CR603? As that is the only thing causing mt to discount it at the moment?

Thanks,

Mark

I upgraded my router to a Netgear N300 wireless router and use the Netgear WNCE2001 wireless bridge

It works superbly (the Marantz is in the living room downstairs and the wireless router is upstairs in the study). Network never drops and I have all green lights across the board without fail

AirPlay works superbly as does the wifi connection for internet radio etc

Thanks that's very useful information...I've more or less decided to go for a Naim UnitiQute but I'm only now discovering this Marantz unit...do you know whether it handles 24/96 (or higher!) FLAC/WAV files natively without downsampling in any way? I can't find anything about this in the specs...

I must admit it's higher Amp rating is appealing as I like the sound of the ATC SCM7's but I'm concerned that the 30W of the UnitiQute is not enough to drive them properly...

I found this link to a US site wherein their review would suggest that it has 24/192 capabilities unless I've read it wrong.

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-ytMxbbHp1Z5/p_642MCR603/Marantz-M-CR603.html?tab=detailed_info

I've got my PC (with FLAC and some high res files) hooked up to the DAC via the Optical input. Sounds a treat.

.

That's great info, thanks...certainly looks like it has a 24/192 DAC inside it (well at least according to that article)....This is starting to look like it's going to overtake the UnitiQute!!!

My pocket (and my Partner) will be pleased about that...maybe I could get away with some cheaper speakers as well, like the MA BX2 Bronze...could get all that for about £700...not bad when I was thinking of spending about £2200 on a UnitiQute and a pair of £700 - £800 Bookshelf speakers...

Don't get cheap on the speakers.

Reviews (and user feedback here) have confirmed that the M-CR603 is quite capable of performing very well with speakers up to PMC DB1i / GB1i level.

I should think MA RX1/RX2 speakers would be well worth trying and well within your budget. (Given what you will save by not getting the Naim UnitiQute.)

Quite right Chebby, it would be a mistake to get cheap on the speakers...my worry about the RX2's were that I will need to situate the speakers on bookshelves either side of a chimney breast and they will be backed up pretty close to the wall...so I was thinking that a front ported or sealed design would be better...

I have to admit I was looking closely at the ATC SCM7's

From my experience of ATC (SCM11s in my case) and PMC DB1i, I would prefer the PMCs in this application and also with the Naim Uniti or UnitiQute.

PMC make a set of bespoke wall-mounts for the DB1i speakers which hold them the optimum distance from the wall (about 3.5 - 4 inches) and are pivoted to customise the angles for your room/listening distance. This would be better than placing them on shelves.

Mine upgrade new SW yesturday, not noticed a difference at all.

I would agree about speakers, I am running some older B&W 603s2, and it drives them with ease.

Thaks Chebby...no space for wall mounting I'm afraid...they are built in shelves that stretch either side of the chimney breast right up to a wall either side.

I've read that the DB1i can be tricky to position so that is why they weren't top of the list...lots of people recommending the DM2/6's but once again I'm not sure they would work well with only a 8cm gap from the wall (although I believe they come with foam plugs for the bass port which may help)

Also heard good things about the Quad 12L2's and Dali Lektor 2's...

I've had a reply back from Marantz saying that the CR603 definitely supports 24/96 FLAC without downsampling...so that's made my mind up for me...it's goodbye UnitiQute and hello CR603...now if I could just decide on which bloody speakers to get...

I have posted this before (apologies but it does look a very good deal). This is what I'm getting (when we eventually move house)
