I have just bought one of the last new unit of PM6002 and the CD6002 was the recommended partner for it.

I tried to get the CD6002 but it had been discountinued and it is now difficult to find in my country.

Instead, now I would like to get the SA7003 or SA8003 instead.

So the difference between the CD6002 and SA8003 is ok for me.

But I would like to know if the SA8003 is a good match for the PM6002?

I know that it outclass the PM6002, but it should provide system synergy like the CD6002?

Any comment? Can't test them now as the shops do not have the PM6002 any more.

Speakers intended to get is the MA RS1 / RS6.

Thanks.

Edit : Price mentioned of the players deleted.

Reckon the SA8003 will be extremely good, though you might want to look at an amp upgrade in time. Alternatively, can you seek out a deal on the 8003 forerunner, the SA7001 KI? If you can, do a compare, the 7001KI is a great player (the one I use, so I can recommend it but with a few caveats, well one, which I'll now mention...) but the bass is articulate and lean, rather than beefy and mean!

If you want the kind of bass presentation that pumps hard, check out the 8003 for performance in this regard. The bass in the 7001KI is very realistic however; it takes a while to get used to it, but you get a very realistic presentation to the point where when I close my eyes I can practically envision a bass guitarist (or double bass player) standing in my room.

Check though; if that doesn't bother you too much, then either player will do the honours. The deals on the 7001 KI should be good as the 8003 has been out for a little while now.

Hi All, thanks for the replies.

I would prefer the SA8003 as I can't find the 7001KI here as well now.

Unfortunately, I had already purchase the PM6002 (without checking out the price for the higher range like the PM7003 & PM8003). As I initially wanted to get the PM6002 and CD6002 only.

But the price of the SA8003 is not that much higher than the CD6002 here. So I decided to get the SA8003 instead. Itshould probably last a few amp and speaker upgarde later. Provided it last that lifetime.

If funds allow, may get the macthing PM8003 later and sell off the PM6002.

The SA8003 had a good review from some mag and website. I guess at the price here, it is too good to miss. Will miss the CD text capability that I have seen on the CD6002 though. Looks cool. But sound is more important.

OK - think that would be a good purchase if you like the Marantz sound. I think, if memory serves, the 8003 has CD text, unless it's been disabled in some territories (I'm sure it uses a Sony transport, so CD text should be bundled in) - don't know why though.

It seem the transport for the SA8003 is a marantz modified Pioneer DVD drive made of ZYLON material.

Heard of complain of the transport being noisy. Will go hear for myself first.

I've download the manual for it and there is no CD Text indicated. Sad...

The transport is a little noisier than the CD6002 but it's negligible when you at your listening position. I used to have the PM6002/CD6002 until I upgraded to PM8003/SA8003 and with no regrets..I would strongly suggest you to get the PM8003/SA8003. Cheers!

Connected to my PM6002 (still not run in yet too) and Tannoy M1 speakers.

Can't really comment on the sound now as it is not run in yet.

But I have to mention the noise from the transport.

It is not loud at all, just like a little whisper. Bearly can hear it 50cm away from the player.

I guess marantz either did some modification to it or it takes some time for the noise to develope?

I hope not the latter (finger crossed)!

Next purchase, new speakers. Saving up starting from now!!!

any news on the transport noise of SA8003? i just sold my NAD C355bee and bought the PM8003 and looking for a cd player that will match with the amp.

first impression of the amp, much cleaner sounding than the 355bee. the vocals on 355bee seemed coming from a microphone while the 8003 seems in your face (dunno how to describe it). it has different presentation than the NAD. tight and lean bass compared to rich and full bodied bass of NAD.

i miss the sound of the NAD though.

Hi!

no need worry about the transport noise. it is hardly noticable. unless u put ur ears near to the transport. else, in ur sitting position dun think u can hear it.
