hi! i'm building a system with a nad amp and epos m12.2 speakers, i'm thinking of adding a marantz budget cd player 5003 along with CA DacMagic dac .. has anyone tried the combination of 5003+dacmagic? is it worth the money ?

will i get more analysis and an overall better sound to match the musicality of Epos ?

can you suggest some good coaxial cable (to connect the cd-player to the dac) ?

Regards,

Harry.

ps i could buy marantz cd 6002, or a sligher better cd player but i think the marantzes are good trasnsport, so what i am thinking is to add a better dac than 6002's internal, correct me if i am wrong. moreover i can add some media center to the ca dac via usb or other inputs...

I wouldn't buy them both. I would use what you already have as transport (cd or dvd player) and the DacMagic can help that out and then amaze you with your pc files (lossless).

point is what i have now is a rather ancient cd player by technics that skips now and then (doesnt have a coaxial output either) so i was thinking of buying both a new budget player (and marantzes are good as transports for their price) AND a dac with the appropriate coaxial cable.

It will definitely improve the sound from the CD5003 but unless you are going to use the DAC with other sources, I would just go with a standalone cd player.

another option for me could be Marantz cd 6002 + the new Beresford TC-7510 MK6/4 DAC (more expensive cd player + cheaper dac = almost identical price)

beresford latest is said to include MOD21 .. target is to gain more analysis and a tighter bass along with richer soundstage from original cd6002's sound which is in the right direction for my taste:)

your thoughts ?

As has been suggested, if you are ONLY going to use the DAC (whatever DAC it is) with JUST the CD Player it is better to spend that total amount of money on a standalone CD player.

How uncanny and interesting.

I also have a aged Technics SL-PG520A CDP but this is faulty and have been borrowing my mates CA 540c while i decide which CDP to get. I was think of getting the same Marantz CD5003 but i also have a Squeezebox Classic to play my pc music. I am in the process of getting a integrated amp (i'm using CA 540Rv3 at the mo) and want to hook both up to it. The squeezebox sounds very good as i have it connected optically, but connecting by analogue does not sound as good. Having this and the 5003 connected to a ext dac, be it a Dacmagic or Beresford, am i correct in saying it be a worth while investment to improve both the CDP and Squeezbox music quality as i can connect both to it?

Also, is it worth spending the extra £100 on a DacMagic if the Beresford Tc-7510 is just as good for the price?

Well if you are using the PC to play music through the Squeezebox there is no question, get the DM.

What are you asking, as oppose to the Beresford or the Marantz?

Beresford.

I looked at both DacMagic and Beresford and latter has the right amount of connections i require. I do not need the optical/coax outs as i will be connecting to the amp using the RCA.
No denying that the DacMagic is one of the best out there but i will most probably using half its potential.

Thanks for replying so quickly by the way.

Well you are probably making the correct choice in the Beresford. Both the Beresford have optical and co-axial connections though the DM has USB too. I switched from a Beresford to a £700 Benchmark DAC1 last yearÿÿand whilst the distinction is obvious the Beresford is stand out at the price.ÿ

I've recently heard the DM and it does seem to have a (slightly) more fluid sound, though if you don't need the XLR or USB connections I would say go for the Beresford.ÿ

As I thought.

I do not need a USB connection either. All music will be stored or transferred on to a NAS and the SB streams music directly from that.

If i had possible usage of the other connections on the DM i would get that. Since i know i won't be it seems like a waste. Bersford it is then.

Thanks for your help and advise.
