http://null/#I actually posted this in the general hi fi section, then realised it probably should be here!
My new Musical Fidelity M1 headphone amp arrived last night, I got the M1 DAC last week and have put about 60 hours use on it. I was using an Argon HA1 headphone amp before that. Headphones are Sennheisser HD650.
I hooked up the HPA straight out of the box and listened to Fleetwood Mac Rumours, I was immediately impressed. Sonically, it was all so "musical" compared to before, the HD650s had tended to sound very detailed but a touch on the clinical side. For example, the guitars on "never going back again" could tend to be a little harsh depending on the volume. With the M1 combo there was a "sweetness" to the sound that was very enjoyable. I followed up with some bass heavy Cure tracks. The bass was excellent and a little more tight and punchy. The HD650s are certainly now displaying true musical ability as well as fine detail.
The volume control is excellent, turning the knob gives very gradual volume changes. The combo also looks great stacked together and it all goes well with my M6i amp, although the colour is a little different? Side by side also looks great but unfortunately this would block the vents on one side of the amp.
I will refrain from comments like "night & day" and "wow, what a great purchase" (even though I want to say it
).... it is early days yet but the impression so far is excellent!
Anyone else tried the M1?
