Low volume on movies through Xbox

Hi, I've been pondering with this dilemma for a while now so I have decided to ask for help. I watch movies through my xbox360 using the equipment below and am finding I need to crank up the volume almost to max when watching movies. In game sounds are fine and go to a high volume but films don't. I'm using the Marantz to drive the front speakers (BR2's) through the pre-outs on my 540R (V2) and the Eltax's act as my rears, a 4.0 setup I suppose. Although there doesn't seem to be a problem with the setup because it works fine on games, I wonder if this is a general problem with using the xbox as a DVD player? Any thoughts appreciated.

Cheers Prof, I have a feeling it may just be a general issue with the xbox. Thanks again!

I use my 360 as my DVD player and don't find this at all-I find the sound to me really good. I use an Onkyo 875 and when I go from SKY HD to the xbox I have to turn the volume down. I am using the MonsterAudio cable for my 360 though-must be cable though as 360's are soooo reliable

Hi daherne1, can I just ask which one you are using, I'm using a premium, the sound quality is fine its just the volume levels are lower in movies than in games. Although DTS material is closer to the same volume level as the in game sounds.

Well, run some tests, ran Independence Day using Dolby Digital soundtrack, then ran Gladiator using both the Dolby Digital and DTS soundtracks, then played GTA IV - couldn't tell any difference volume wise between each of them to be honest - perhaps if anything, the game was a bit quieter when playing GTA IV, but only marginally. I'm using an Xbox Core system (with added HDD) connected up using the standard Xbox component cable + optical lead to my amp.

Well thanks for testing, I'm using the same connections as you, optical to amp and component to tv. The saga continues, I always know that there is a dramatic difference because when I go back to the dashboard from watching a movie I get that signature xbox swoosh but mega loud. Will have to try a friends xbox and see if its a problem with my amp or xbox. Cheers

Yup, sounds like the way forward. Just had a look through all the settings as well to see if anything might be doing this, but I can't see anything. Good luck!

I'm using a premium also-very hard to find significant difference in sound level between games and movies-hope you you get sorted.

i have exactly the same problem!!! i have an optical cable from amp to 360 premium, and component from 360 to tv. then coaxial from amp to separate dvd player. sound from the 360 is MUCH louder than dvd player!! i end up turning the dvd player up 20db and still nowhere near the same!
