Yeah, looks like they've just slipped it in there without much fanfare - doesn't even need an update, just click on the icon on the Video part of the XMB and it quickly downloads and installs it. Unfortunately I don't have a full Lovefilm subscription to try it out, but apparently I can use my Film Extra credits to get 2 hours of watching per credit. Which is nice.

Tried out last night the new Lovefilm feature on PS3 (haven't even received an email from lovefilm or playstation to say it was now available) - and extremely unimpressed !!!!!

I have a 10MB Virgin cable broadband connection (a very steady good connection), and it took more than ten attempts before the film ("Arnacoeur/Heartbreaker" with the lovely Vanessa Paradis) even started to stream (same error message every time). Then it stalled every 2 mins, the picture quality through my Pioneer 43" plasma was awful. Compared to streaming via the new Apple TV, Lovefilm on PS3 is really not worth the effort (even when it comes free with package) until they improve the streaming quality - and of course offer HD streaming - no film is meant to be watched in fragmented chunks at a quality that is worse than pirated VHS !!! I'll be sticking to the postal blu-ray versions, thank you.

Looks like they are having bandwidth problems with the ps3 portal. Get a popup-window saying 'Connection problem -press continue'. The film does start if u wait - but u cant get rid of the window (without exiting playback), and film still stutters.

No such issues playing lovefilm direct through my tv.

I guess they'll sort it out in the next few days...

Also tried it last night. Film started within about 10 secs but about an hour into the film started stuttering. As said previously, the quality needs to be improved.

I had no problem with the streaming on my 10MB Virgin cable and thought the quality was pretty good. No freezing and equal to the quality of SD streaming from AppleTV.

However, the controls are absolutely shocking. The play/pause is the 'X' button, not the 'Play' button on the PS3 remote (which is how DVDs are played/paused) or the 'Start' button on the PS3 controller. It's also REALLY easy to activate fast forward or rewind without having a way to cancel it, resulting in struggling to find your place in the film again. And please, don't ever hit the circle button to go back to the menu - despite asking if you want to start the film where you last viewed, it never ever goes back to that point.

Whoever designed the controls needs sacking. It really is that bad and will prevent me from using the streaming. However, if you're able to watch a film from start to finish without wanting to pause it, you're in luck.

Guess I'll stick to the scratched discs that need a clean before they'll play in the PS3!

Saw this on the XMB last night and registered my details without a problem. Will be trying it out at the weekend but I've got to say I'm skeptical. My ISP throttles bandwidth something terrible at peak times and I don't think movies will stream without a lot of buffering. I hope I'm wrong but from the looks of comments here already i won't be holding my breath

I tried it last night and I was very impressed. No buffer issues at all. Picture quality better than the BBC iPlayer. The content could do with a little boost but over all very happy.

Now I just need Anytime+ and I'm an on-demand guy!

Tried again tonight - again unsuccessful - this time Lovefilm threw up an on-screen message saying that too many people were using the service, and that I should try again later!

And this is after Lovefilm sent me an email today saying that it was my ISP's fault that I couldn't stream - jeez! Please, do they think we're idiots? Pass me the moonshine, bro'!

Despite the (hopefully) teething problems of Lovefilm through the PS3, and dismissive customer service - (see above) - we've been really impressed with the subscription and DVDs/Blu-rays through the post - we did one month trial then two at a time level. No catch. We get through about two a week (Blu-rays seem to be more available and arrive quicker than DVDs, maybe because fewer subscribers have Blu-ray players?), which makes it excellent value, and you can get hold of the more obscure titles that Blockbuster etc would never have. "Ten Canoes" (great film, in aborigine!) and original "El Mariachi" spring to mind.

I had a look at the lovefilm service on the ps3 last night.Yes worked fine for me(using upto 50meg virgin broardband) no issues for me,easy to set up.streamed a film called the reef, looked good on my sony 40hx803.But i love the way it works on my blu-ray player(sony bdps470) when you use the service via the blu-ray player or sony tv,it does an connection test first to see how fast your connection is.Maybe love film should use that system via the ps3.Because it does seem to be a smoother picture.

I did the connection test using broadband speed checker - I was getting about 9.8MB at the time - if that doesn't work then it ain't going to work for the masses (and especially sky broadband subsrcibers:). The Lovefilm message itself said there were too many people using, and try again later....not an ISP/connection issue. This was at about 9pm, and tried on several films, just in case it was a glitch on one film.

Does Lovefilm preferentially stream to higher package subscribers, or Sony employees:)? Just a thought.

In case it affects anyone, if you have a lovefilm account via resellers such as Tesco DVD rentals (like me), the PS3 facility is unavailable to you; I checked with their support team and they have no immediate plans to be able to offer this.

looks like they've improved the portal problems - the 'error connecting to lovefilm' window doesnt appear now.

Movies still seem to stutter a little.

After three emails and two identical replies from Lovefilm, blaming my ISP for poor streaming, just received an email apology from them, saying that they do have volume issues at the moment and that they will try to improve things. Thanks......eventually!

Emailed Lovefilm about the quality and the just blamed my connection speed which is normally between 3.5 to 6.5 Mbs. So tried it again tonight; after checking my internet speed through their recommended speed check website and gave the result of just under 4Mbs; the quality was still bad. So my account is now cancelled.

I don't know why anybody that has forked out on home cinema equipment would want to watch films this way. No HD picture or soundtrack and poor and unreliable streaming. What is the point? Get the Blu-Ray and make the most of your system.

I think this new online service should be used as a free added value feature to the excellent postal film rental service. Not as the primary route to viewing films.

Having been a Love Film customer for around 18 months and seen numerous Blu Ray films for a fraction of the price of going to Blockbuster its been great. Now, if we want to watch another film on the fly, we can do so, on demand via the playstation at no extra cost! Great.

I have to say though it has lots of room for improvement, the interface is slow, a little clunky and the picture quality is poor, there is a long way to go before this even touches DVD quality, let alone Blu Ray. But its a start.

We are on an O2 20meg service which connects at around 13meg and so far no stuttering, although the demo video did fall over quite quickly!
