I use the ECM-2 network player and have had endless problems with it since buying it a year ago. The mobile phone app always had problems connecting to the unit, the unit would forget the stored Internet stations and sometimes sound would play from only one channel. It eventually crashed and because the local distributor was unable to fix it, I dealt directly with Electro's repair department (Volker, if you're reading this, you'll know who I am).

Eventually, after much too-ing and fro-ing they sent me a new SSD card to insert into my unit, and although this has worked to some extent, I'm still plagued by similar problems as before - the app can't connect, the unit forgets the stations etc. Granted, there is a relatively simple solution - I just switch the unit off and on again using the rocker switch on the rear panel, wait a few seconds and then it works fine, but surely one shouldn't have to constantly reboot an expensive player like this all the time?

Maybe they crammed too many features into the ECM-2?

Having said all of that, the sound of Electro gear is good, so here's hoping they've ironed out all glitches for their digital products.

Do you live in an area where the mains power is prone to large voltage spikes and swings or regular brown outs ?

Hi Electro, sorry for the late reply - no I don't. In any case, the unit was powered by a PS Audio P5 power regenerator so consistency of the power supply is not an issue. Maybe I bought a lemon!

Possibly but I would not be 100 % happy in your situation, did they give you any expanation of what might be happening ?

They should be able to get it right because the parent company Westcontrol AS supply control systems for the oil industry and helicopters etc, so you would expect them to get a simple hifi control system right ! *yes3*

Hi Electro, well they didn't give an explanation but my guess is that they crammed too many features into the ECM-2 and rushed it out without properly fixing all the bugs. For example, there have been many firmware updates (each one aimed at fixing several bugs) since the model was launched but even with the latest firmware and update for the app, it is still unstable. I have to constantly switch the unit off and on and it still regularly forgets my stored favourite Internet radio stations.

Still, I'm sticking with it because the sound is good. At least the ECI5 mk2 amp is reliable!
