My local store already has both Rena's in stock for a while. The look nice but I could not find much info on them on the web. Speaker terminals look horrible btw. Realy budget receiver-ish.

I use the ECM-2 network player and have had endless problems with it since buying it a year ago. The mobile phone app always had problems connecting to the unit, the unit would forget the stored Internet stations and sometimes sound would play from only one channel. It eventually crashed and because the local distributor was unable to fix it, I dealt directly with Electro's repair department (Volker, if you're reading this, you'll know who I am).

Eventually, after much too-ing and fro-ing they sent me a new SSD card to insert into my unit, and although this has worked to some extent, I'm still plagued by similar problems as before - the app can't connect, the unit forgets the stations etc. Granted, there is a relatively simple solution - I just switch the unit off and on again using the rocker switch on the rear panel, wait a few seconds and then it works fine, but surely one shouldn't have to constantly reboot an expensive player like this all the time?

Maybe they crammed too many features into the ECM-2?

Having said all of that, the sound of Electro gear is good, so here's hoping they've ironed out all glitches for their digital products.

About time. Let's hope it's a vast improvement on their entry-level range.

Agreed , they should never have bothered making that range.

This new (ish ) equipment is aimed more at non hifi enthusiasts, lifestyle I suppose .

Do you live in an area where the mains power is prone to large voltage spikes and swings or regular brown outs ?

Does anyone currently sell this in the U.K.? I've looked at the dealers on Electro's website and they either no longer carry it or have gone bust!

Come to that, Abrahamsen seems to have slunk off too, as Colin is focussing on other products. What a shame.

I am not aware of any.

One of my local dealers, Kronos AV, who was a big Elecro dealer, sold off all their stock at favorable prices and no longer keeps the brand. It's where I became familiar with their products.

That's what I feared, Cno. What a shame! I think that long-term availability is something we underestimate when buying. It never occurred to me twenty years back when buying my Krell and Sonus faber gear, but that means they still have a decent used value, which I hope soon to explore further?

I see that B&W can still service my Nakamichi too, which must be from the mid-80s. (I bought it used in about '98 from someone advertising it at a show!)

Yup, there's a lot to be said for Linn, Naim, Sugden, Icon Audio, Creek, Rega, Arcam, PMC, ProAc and Kef etc.....all making great stuff.

And ATC I hope! Interestingly, I realised that PMC's very generous 20 year warranty only applies to the first owner, which must have an impact on their used value. ATC's 6 year one applies to product not owner.

Of course. It's a brand I can sometimes forget, as I don't have access to it here.

Still hear not sunk off just keeping a respectful distance. Abrahamsen have new investors in the business so should hopefully see an improvement in their sales activities. They also decided to take the UK back so we no longer sell Abrahamsen. It still remains an excellent product and we wish them well.

We are concentrating on our own Nord range and will have an integrated amp version shortly.

Do you mean that Abrahamsen are now going to deal directly with the UK, cutting out any dealers?

TBH Per needed to do something. Their distribution outside of Scandanavia was naf.f. Let's also not forget, despite producing well respected products, he took Electrocompaniet into liquidation. So he might be a very good designer of amps and suchlike, but a c##p businessman.

All very true and a crying shame, he builds top class equipment but doesn't market it effectively , then sells it too cheaply for people to take it seriously.

Sadly this happens with brilliant designers, engineers, or even hifi shop owners. They have great ideas but cannot sustain the boring cash flow, marketing and promotion stuff, which they realise too late is what keeps them going.
