Losing Multi Regional Facility After Blu-Ray Firmware Update

Hello all, I've just been speaking to Richer Sounds and they have told me that they don't offer DVD MR on Blu-Ray units anymore because firmware updates were removing the MR hack and it has to be hacked all over again each time there's a firmware update.

I wondered if anyone had actually experienced this issue?

Wouldn't be at all surprised, if the 'hack' modifies firmware which is subsequently replaced in an upgrade.

This is certainly what happens with the Denon 2500 BT that I have .

When I bought it from Sevenoaks they added the MR option , and then updated the Firmware which then removed the MR , so they had to do it all over again.

There is also reports that the latest firmware is causing problems when you install it , you then can't add the MR hack

I'm a bit confused as Richer Sounds told me they don't do Blu Rays with MR DVD anymore. But I found several such machines (Sony & Philips) on their own site.

I called up a well known Multi Region dealer and had a chat and he said he'd had no problems with the make I'm interested in, Panasonic, and no customers had come back to him complaining this had happened.

I have added several upgrades to my Panny, and it is still multi-region.

For info i can confirm my sony is still multi region after a new firmware update yesterday.

Thanks to all. Just made my Panasonic SC-BT230 multi regional with a remote from ebay. We'll see if it stays that way after the next firmware update.

By the way, delighted with the BT230 - much, much better than its predessor the BT200.

I too have the BT-230 and would like to go region free. How did your system remain after a firmware upgrade?
