Looking to down size...

My home cinema system is sadly way too big for our front room and I'm looking to down size it. I use the system for both DVD and CD play-back so any alternative set-up would need to cater for both as best it can. My current system is comprised as follows:

Acoustic Energy Aegis Evo 3b speaker package

Marantz SR5300 AV Receiver

Marantz CD6000 OSE Limited Edition

Marantz DV4100 OSE

Atacama Nexus 6 stands (for the rear speakers)

What seems like miles of QED Original MK2 bi-wire cable.

Various interconnects, scart cables etc.

I know it's all out of date now - but I'll still be sad to see it go! First off could anyone recommend the best way of getting rid of the above? Would it be worth trading it in when I buy the new kit for example - or would I just be better off sticking it all on ebay?

As for replacing it, the space limitations have forced me consider sound bars and 'one box' solutions. The Yamaha YSP-40D looks great, as does the NAD Viso 2 in conjunction with a KEF KHT2005.3 package perhaps? - although the later does involve more speakers/cables which I'm trying to avoid where possible.

Contrary to the above evidence I'm not actually obsessed with Marantz - but I do like the look of the ES7001 Cinemarium together with a DV7001 or even the new BD7003?

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

P.S Silly question: With the ES7001... I am right in thinking I don't need a receiver/amp? - I just need the source player?

Well, you could ask about a trade-in, but you'd probably do better selling privately, whether on Ebay or some other service.

Yes, the Yamaha is extremely good, but bear in mind that if you go for the NAD you won't need the complete KHT2005.3 speaker package - just two speakers and a sub.

Yes, that would work - and no, you don't need a receiver/amp - it's all built into the unit. Just bear in mind that the ES7001 can only accept 'old school' DTS and Dolby Digital, not the newer HD variants

Let me know what you go for. My setup is not that different

  • Marantz SR4300
  • Marantz DV6400
  • I did have a separate Marantz CD player but that had to go in the loft!
  • plus a Sony HDD/DVD Recorder
  • KEF 2005.2 + QED Silver Anniversary

I think I'm going to go for the VISO FIVE to replace the Marantz boxes, then replace the Sony box with a Panasonic Blu-ray / HDD / DVB-T2 receiver in 12-18 months when Freeview HD appears.
