Looking for a new world of music

It is now time to replace my aged old simple pioneer hi-fi.

I was initially looking at the Bose Lifestyle 48, its simple, smart design attracted me but having looked at it, listened to it and read the reviews my gut instinct is that it is time to look elsewhere and so time to ask for advice.

I would like you to guide me on what you would look at buying, I am getting more confused with how you match up systems to speakers etc and am getting more confused by the day. Stupidly am having building work so have a limited time frame to get my system in before Mr Plasterer comes in!

I am interested in Music, not home cinema (another reason not to look at the bose), I have several hundred CDs and also use iTunes. I would like to listen to the radio also and would like to have the option of running my TV sound through the system just to get some improvement on the inbuilt TV speaker. The music, however, is the priority.

In an ideal world the speakers would be ceiling speakers (this is my wifes request as she likes the clutter free look)

The room is 6m x 7m in size, budget £4,000

What would you suggest?

Thanks for any help

Morning Tom,

From what you've stated the NaimUniti springs to mind At 2k. It has DAB and FM radio, streaming for iTunes,CD player and line-in's for analog (TV).

You'll get some feedback from this product from users here over the coming days.

It's a shame about the speakers situation but there are some manufactures out their who now make some good in wall/ceiling speakers and i would look into the PMC Wafer2 at 1.1k. The Uniti and PMC brands have good synergy, it's likely this combo will work but the only way to be sure is to demo. It may be worth contacting PCM to see if any of their distributers have these on demo at the moment. Even if you cant get their you will get valuable feedback form them.

That leaves around £800 for cabling which should be plenty. Their will inevitable be long runs so the cost would be more but still £800 should be enough.

Good luck and welcome.

Thanks for the advice shooter69.

I was thinking of looking at a NAS (such as Ripnas 1TB) and so not sure I will need a CD drive. (please feel free to correct me if you wish)

Would I be able to form a multi-zone system with the NaimUniti in the future? with this I would like to be able to play the same or different music in 4 zones...

Any other thoughts?

Thanks
